Position Highlights
The Department of Physiology in the College of Medicine
- Tucson campus is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate I to join the lab of Associate Professor Shaowen Bao. The purpose of this position is to conduct investigation of the mechanisms underlying noise trauma-induced neuronal death using advanced molecular, cellular, and electrophysiological techniques. The candidate is expected to have extensive experience with extracellular electrophysiology, immunofluorescence imaging, circuit tracing, behavioral testing and patch clamp recording.
An important component of this position will be to work independently and as part of a team in the daily function of the laboratory. The successful candidate will plan, coordinate, and participate in all aspects of the research project. This includes evaluating research data, revising, improving and monitoring techniques, and developing innovative methods and approaches to solve scientific problems while meeting goals and objectives in accordance with priorities, time, funding, and other limitations.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop, plan, design, and conduct novel research on noise trauma-induced cell death.
- Operate the specialized research lab and manage equipment.
- Use knowledge to formulate research methods and develop criteria for all projects according to peer-reviewed journal standards; collaborate on new research techniques and equipment.
- Create functional timelines to complete assigned work and meet research obligations.
- Participate in strategy, structure, and development of grant proposals, including grant writing, protocol development, and scope of work definition.
- Participate in acquisition of new research funding by evaluating grant and industry-sponsored opportunities.
- Author, co-author, present, and co-present research results with principal investigators at meetings or conferences.
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD completed in neuroscience or neurophysiology before anticipated start date.
