Position Overview

The Theodorescu Laboratory and Padi Laboratory at the University of Arizona Cancer Center seek a joint postdoctoral researcher with expertise in computational biology and/or cancer bioinformatics. The project focuses on integrating multimodal omics data from cell lines and animal models to identify mechanisms driving transformation and cancer. Work will involve genomics, proteomics, spatial transcriptomics, network inference, epigenetic rewiring, and dynamic modeling.

The ultimate goal is to discover novel biomarkers and interventions that can improve patient outcomes.

This position offers training for both academic and industry careers and welcomes recent PhD or MD/PhD recipients and those seeking additional postdoctoral development.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design and perform quantitative data analysis, maintaining detailed code documentation and sharing results with Principal Investigators.
  • Develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and algorithms.
  • Analyze, interpret, and present data clearly and accurately.
  • Perform routine and complex data analysis procedures throughout the training period.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant proposals with the PIs.
  • Participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
  • Meet with both PIs regularly to discuss research progress and plans.
  • May be asked to write small grant proposals or NRSA/T32 applications.
  • Allocate approximately 75% of time to computational analysis and 25% to writing, data analysis, and literature review.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Ability to work independently on research projects within a specialized area.
  • Thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of the research objectives during the postdoctoral appointment.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for quantitative analyses, reproducible coding, and interpreting biological results.
  • Strong understanding of both bioinformatics and molecular biology.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctorate (PhD or MD/PhD) in computational biology, physics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Outstanding publication record from previous graduate or postgraduate training and/or existing extramural funding.
