Position: Research Technician II, Cellular and Molecular Medicine (Full-Time)

Research Technician II, Cellular and Molecular Medicine (Full‑Time)

Position will support two roles (50/50 split) in the Mouneimne lab and in the Microscopy Shared Resource at the University of Arizona Cancer Center.

1. Support ongoing research in the Mouneimne lab focused on the role of mechanical conditioning in cancer progression. Responsibilities include organizing and cataloging human and mouse tissue specimens, performing histological staining and microscopy, assisting with laboratory experiments, and recording and analyzing data. The technician will work closely with lab members and collaborators to support both clinical and mouse studies.

2. Support daily maintenance activities, training of users, and data analysis in the MSR core at the UACC.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Organizing, cataloging, and tracking histological tissue sections and specimen blocks (OCT and FFPE) from human and mouse experiments, and maintaining the sample inventory and associated metadata.
  • Performing histological and immunostaining (H&E, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence) and capturing images by light and fluorescence microscopy.
  • Assisting with laboratory experiments, including tissue sectioning (cryostat and microtome), cell culture, and routine molecular biology assays, and recording and analyzing data.
  • Preparing reagents, buffers, and solutions, and supporting general laboratory operations, including inventory management, supply ordering, and equipment upkeep.
  • Maintenance of equipment, including cleaning, calibrating, and test running some equipment to make sure operations run smoothly.
  • Assisting the core manager (Dr. Padilla‑Rodriquez) in training sessions for onboarding new users.
  • Assisting the core manager with data analysis including developing new workflows and running and debugging existing workflows.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory safety practices, including the handling of biological specimens and chemical reagents.
  • Skill in maintaining accurate, organized records and sample inventories.
  • Ability to perform routine laboratory techniques (sectioning, staining, microscopy, reagent preparation) and to learn new protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal protocols precisely.
  • Proficiency with standard computer applications (spreadsheets, databases) for data entry and recordkeeping.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a research team.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work to meet experimental timelines.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
