Position HighlightsThe Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at the University of Arizona is seeking multiple Postdoctoral Research Associates to join the laboratory of Dr. Russell S. Witte, PhD. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead groundbreaking research in Phase Change Ultrasound (PCUS) technology—combining ultrasound and nanotechnology to map the human lymphatic system. The successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to develop, evaluate, and validate PCUS and associated contrast agents in bench‑top and in vivo testbeds, advancing a new imaging modality for clinical use.

Duties & Responsibilities- Develop imaging protocols using programmable ultrasound systems (e.g., Verasonics or Vevo F2).
- Apply advanced ultrasound signal processing and beamforming principles.
- Formulate and characterize nanoparticles and ultrasound contrast agents.
- Conduct experiments in flow systems, tissue‑mimicking phantoms, biological tissue, and animal models.
- Produce high‑quality, peer‑reviewed publications.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
- Fluency in English, with excellent writing and presentation skills.
- Strong motivation, independence, and ability to work in a multidisciplinary research environment.
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Optical Sciences, or a related discipline.
- At least three publications in biomedical imaging, advanced signal processing, or nanotechnology.
- Minimum of four years of experience working with scientific hardware and instrumentation.
- Strong publication record in biomedical imaging, ultrasound, signal processing, and/or nanotechnology.
- Experience using open‑platform ultrasound systems (e.g., Verasonics Vantage/NXT, Visual Sonics F2/VADA).
- Minimum four years’ experience with bioinstrumentation (oscilloscopes, function generators, scanners).
- Proficiency in Matlab, C++, and/or Python (minimum four years).
- At least two years’ experience with acoustic modeling software (k‑Wave, FOCUS, Field II).
- Hands‑on experience formulating and characterizing nanoparticles or contrast agents.
- Familiarity with one or more of the following:
- Super‑resolution or localization microscopy
- Photoacoustic imaging
- Elasticity imaging
- Pulse encoding
- Inverse problem‑solving
- Machine learning and AI applications
- Solid Works and 3D printing
