Position Specific Description
The Water Quality Analyst position at the City of Tucson’s Water Department works in a field and lab environment. This position collects, analyzes, and reviews water sample results for quality control, ensuring compliance with EPA and ADEQ standards and regulations. The Water Quality Analyst will calibrate instruments, prepare required reagents, perform testing and quality control, data entry and review, sample receiving and login, and scheduling.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Client Services Chemist Supervisor. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities- Schedule, perform, and coordinate compliance and discretionary sampling throughout the Tucson Water distribution system for ADEQ Drinking Water Compliance and accurately document sample collections utilizing a Chain of Custody (COC).
- Utilize a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to input water quality data and review data for completeness and accuracy.
- Maintain samples and sample containers by checking completeness of incoming/outgoing bottle sets and Chain of Custodies (COC). Prepare and maintain sufficient inventory of sample bottles, chemicals, lab reagents, and lab consumables, including addition of method specific bottle preservatives. Receive and/or deliver samples in the laboratory and prepare sample shipments to subcontract laboratories.
- Calibrate field instrumentation, ensuring proper functionality, for the analysis of pH, temperature, free and total chlorine, conductivity, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen.
- Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor to meet department/divisional objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation
Associate degree
Experience
One (1) year of directly related experience
License Requirements
Valid and unrestricted Driver License
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications in:- ADEQ Grade 1 Water Treatment Operator
- ADEQ Grade 1 Water Distribution Operator
- ArcGIS mapping, Geo Worx, and Hexagon Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems.
- Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) software such as Element.
- Microsoft Office suite of programs.
- Potable/non-potable water distribution systems.
- Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Sampling potable and non-potable water.
- Analyzing and reporting results related to water quality.
- Using lab equipment and quality control procedures related to potable and non-potable, and wastewater.
- Maintaining Chain of Custodies (COC’s) and lab records.
- Utilizing an Asset Management System.
