POSITION SUPERVISORPrincipal
GENERAL STATEMENT OF POSITIONS PURPOSETo demonstrate a caring and understanding relationship with parents and students; to have a positive working relationship with the principal & staff; to maintain a high level of security; and assist in promoting a safe school environment.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation and/or training:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- MSDS and blood borne pathogens training, desirable.
Experience:
- No prior experience
- Experience working with adolescents preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge/proficiency of equipment, tools, materials and skills:
- 2-way radio
- Electric cart
- Knowledge of best practices in building security and safety.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and codes related to building safety and security including OSHA and Electronic Surveillance laws.
- Knowledge of security and alarm systems, electronic surveillance, and related safety and security devices.
- Ability to follow oral and written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with principal and others.
- Ability to describe orally or in writing security problems as needed.
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to maintain a professional calm manner when challenged by students.
- Ability to communicate and work well with staff, parents and students.
- Assists the building principal with requested/assigned duties
- Assists in keeping assigned building and premises, sidewalks, and driveways neat and clean during working hours
- Maintain assigned equipment
- Works directly with staff, students, and parents regarding security issues
- Patrols campus and parking lot
- Enforces Board policies regarding smoking, parking, loitering, trespassing, theft, vandalism, property damage, alcohol, drug abuse, and other school rules and regulations.
- Assists with set-up and clean-up for meetings and sports activities
- Ensures that all paperwork dealing with students is properly documented
- May be required to alter working hours to perform regularly assigned duties
- Reports concerns and incidents which may require corrective action to Building Security Supervisor and Principal.
- Encourages appropriate student conduct with regard to school rules and regulations.
- Assists visitors to the school in receiving proper direction; assists in maintaining log of all visitors and prevents unauthorized persons from entering the building.
- Monitors exits and prevents unauthorized exits of the building by students.
- Checks student passes when classes are in session; escorts students to and from Principal's offices as directed.
- Assists school administrators with investigations as assigned.
- Physically separates students involved in altercations and maintains crowd control as needed in accordance with established guidelines regarding the use of force.
- Other duties as assigned.
Level of Accountability and Authority:
- Perform as directed; responsible for own job under direct supervision
Interaction with Others:
- Interact primarily with students, staff and general public.
Time Management:
- Routine work with little planning needed
Working Conditions:
- Periodic exposure to hazardous materials such as blood borne pathogens, high voltage, gases or heights.
- Works in standard school building environment
- Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain and or snow.
Physical Requirements:
- Sit approximately 15% of the time
- Walk approximately 65% of the time
- Stand approximately 15% of the time
- Kneeling/ stooping 5% of the time
- Lift on a regular basis under 30 lbs.
- Reach with hands and arms occasionally
Work Environment:
- Must be able to drive an electrical cart, spend most hours outside in whatever weather is present.
- The work environment of this position is the normal school environment with noise level variations from low to mid based on how many people are in the school areas at any given time.
