HVAC Refrigeration Technician II
University Facility Services at the University of Arizona is seeking an HVAC Refrigeration Technician II to install, maintain, repair, and overhaul HVAC and Refrigeration equipment at the Main Campus, Tucson, AZ.
Position highlights:
Works in restricted movement, extreme temperatures, intense noise, hazardous materials, wet locations, and heavy lifting. A valid driver’s license is required to operate University vehicles.
- Perform planned maintenance, regular servicing, and repairs of heating and refrigeration equipment of all types, sizes, and temperature ranges.
- Carry out complex repairs and services on mechanical, HVAC, chillers, boilers, walk‑ins, and cold rooms under the supervision of the Project Manager.
- Test malfunctioning systems and components using electrical, mechanical, and digital controls.
- Maintain cooling towers, water treatment, and tower distribution systems.
- Prepare estimates for repairs and installation of HVAC equipment.
- Install and replace all types of HVAC equipment according to prints, specifications, diagrams, or other instructions.
- Coordinate work schedules with other shops and departments to minimize inconvenience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read and understand schematics.
- Customer service skills and ability to work in a team setting.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Work under conditions of restricted movement, extreme temperatures, intense noise, hazardous materials, wet locations, hazardous working locations, and lifting/carrying heavy objects.
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Three years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Apprenticeship program and technical training experience required.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
- Experience in repair and maintenance of walk‑in/reach‑in freezers and coolers.
- Experience in repair and maintenance of chillers and boilers.
- Experience in repair of ice machines.
- Experience with commercial, industrial, and residential HVAC systems.
