The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is currently searching for a qualified and reliable Building Maintenance Specialist to routinely be involved on a daily basis in many different types of duties and tasks of general facility maintenance, repair and construction to include preventative maintenance and assignments as well as but not limited to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, kitchen equipment repairs and utility service system at the Arizona State Prison Complex - Tucson.

- Schedules and plans maintenance-related projects to include pricing, material list, equipment and needs
- Performs maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks as required and scheduled
- Completes related documentation as required by policy and as directed by supervisor
- Basic knowledge of office equipment to include computers, internet research and completion of documents
- Inspects and maintains tools and equipment to ensure proper working order and all are accounted for
- Supervises and evaluates inmate worker’s performance
- Attends staff meetings and training as required
- Drives on State business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
- Structural issues regarding building and utility service systems, including blueprints, safety practices, and codes
- Trades, e.g., electrical, electronic, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, general facility maintenance, preventive maintenance, etc.
- Budgeting to include estimating costs and ordering materials
- Common and specialized tools and equipment for performing duties
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and national and local building codes/regulations
- Reading of blueprints, schematics, and general construction
- Mechanical devices, electrical, preventative maintenance
- Using and demonstrating the use of common and specialized tools
- Written and verbal communication
- Lift/Carry up to 50lbs
- Push/Pull up to 50lbs
- Walk/Run up to 0.25 miles
- Work in a prison environment
- Supervise inmate work crews
- On-the-job training as a technical or generalized maintenance staff person
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Education which includes technical training
- Specialized trade schools and unions
Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test, and a medical/physical examination. In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter. If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply.
Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.
