Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience in industrial mechanical maintenance, pipe fitting, or welding
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical or trade school certification in mechanical systems, HVAC, or fabrication
  • Knowledge of tools, materials, and methods used in the construction, repair, and operation of engines, pumps, and mechanical systems related to utility and treatment plant operations.
  • Strong understanding of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and industrial safety standards
  • Familiarity with safe work practices in industrial environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to enter and manage data in CMMS or other computerized systems.

Working Conditions &

Physical Requirements
  • The work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high‑pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, airborne particles, noxious gases, pathogens, and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist, and bend at the waist; turn; kneel; squat; raise arms above shoulder height; grasp; reach; perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment; have vision sufficient to work on equipment; have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8‑hour shift, must be able to transport self across the facility, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height, climb and work off of a ladder or scaffold, and climb into and out of vehicles having high ground clearance;

    use arms and back to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts; work in confined spaces; and wear and use appropriate safety equipment.
Responsibilities

The Facility Maintenance Technician performs a wide range of preventive and corrective maintenance tasks to ensure the safe and efficient operation of equipment, instruments, and support systems within a Central Utility Plant and/or Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant. This position requires technical expertise in pipe fitting, mechanical, and HVAC systems, as well as the ability to work independently on an assigned shift.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair critical facility equipment to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operations.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair motors, pumps, valves, and related mechanical systems.
  • Execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve system reliability and extend equipment life.
  • Maintain accurate work orders and asset data in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Exercise independent judgment in resolving routine maintenance issues using specialized tools and equipment.
  • Perform skilled mechanical repairs on plant systems and supporting infrastructure.
  • Conduct brazing, soldering, and welding as needed on plant and facility systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, sketches, and specifications.
  • Install new equipment and interpret wiring diagrams, codes, and technical documentation.
  • Safely operate aerial lifts, scaffolding, forklifts, and other mobile equipment.
  • Work independently using sound judgment to resolve routine and complex maintenance issues.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions while maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
