Essential DutiesOperates a dragline in all modes of digging, spoiling and propelling utilizing hand levers and foot pedals to rotate the machine and position boom above the excavation point; raises and lowers bucket to material; drags bucket forward to load material, rotates machine and lets bucket back out to dump. Assists supervisor with maintaining consistent dig sequence and windrow placement. Anticipates walking pad requirements and requests grading assistance to eliminate down time on the machine.
Inspects rope and predicts tooth changes. Assists other crew members to maintain a positive, engaged and safe work environment. Performs job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures and State and Federal environmental regulations.
Assists with all repair and component replacements. May be required to drive a company vehicle, must maintain a valid driving record (MVR) and in good standing. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesPrior demonstrated ability operating heavy equipment in a construction or mining environment. Ability to be trained in safe dragline operation, digging, spoiling and moving machine to maximize machine efficiency and reduce operating cost. Ability to work with other crew members and work as a team player is a must.
Education, Training and ExperiencePrior on‑job experience as a heavy equipment operator is required. Ability to be trained in the safe operations of a dragline is a must.
Minimum RequirementsPrior dragline operating experience is a plus. Clean MVR. Ability to work rotating shifts.
Analysis of Physical Demands for PositionIntermittent: lifting, carrying, pushing up to 75 lbs. (tools & supplies); pushing and pulling up to 75 lbs. (making mechanical repairs); stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling (making mechanical repairs). Occasionally (0‑1/3 of workday): standing and walking (maintenance & cleaning), climbing and balancing (dragline boom & mounting equipment); reaching (equipment operation); fingering (controls & computer); color vision (identification of seams). Frequently (1/3 – 2/3 of workday): speaking (radio communication).
Continually (2/3‑3/3 of workday): sitting (equipment operation); handling and repetitive motions (controls); foot & leg movement (foot pedals); hearing (equipment problem detection, radio & hazard recognition); seeing and depth perception (equipment operation & hazard recognition).
Note:
90% inside and 10% outside in all weather extremes. Works at heights when inspecting the dragline boom.
