This position is a Grade 311 with an annual salary between $49,446-$74,169.
About Us and the RoleThe City of Glendale's Transportation Department provides quality public transit facilities and services that support and enhance a safe and high quality of life for our residents, while helping to improve and sustain the environment. This is the first level in the Service Worker series. Performs skilled and semi-skilled construction, maintenance, and repair work in an assigned area of responsibility. The ideal candidate for the role will have one year of experience in construction, maintenance, and repair work and/or in the operation of light, medium and heavy equipment related to area of assignment.

Holiday, Vacation, and Sick LeaveRegular status position’s offer:
- The City of Glendale observes 10.5 holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave per calendar year to celebrate their cultural or religious holidays.
- Vacation leave accrues at 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours per year), and increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years, and to 7.6 hours after 10 years of service.
- Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours per year).
- This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
- Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 11.98%.
One year of experience in construction, maintenance, and repair work and/or in the operation of light, medium and heavy equipment related to area of assignment.
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
Knowledge of:
- Rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to area of assignment
- Materials, tools, equipment, safety hazards and precautions common to the assigned areas of responsibility
- Hazard, safety rules, precautions related to equipment operation
- Traffic laws, ordinances, rules and regulations as they relate to equipment operation
Ability to:
- Read and understand blue prints, technical diagrams, and maps
- Barricade work sites according to the Phoenix barricade manual
- Understand and follow safe working practices
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Deal courteously with the public
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and citizens
