The Emergency Vehicle Technician Supervisor is part of this team dedicated to providing service solutions that exceed our customers’ expectations. With a specialized fleet of emergency response vehicles, the Tucson Fire Department provides the latest technologies, training, and industry certification opportunities to keep the fleet management team and the fleet at the forefront of the industry.

The Emergency Vehicle Technician Supervisor plans, coordinates and supervises the daily activities and work assignments of the technicians and staff involved in the repair and maintenance of the Fire Department’s apparatus, ambulances and support equipment. Workflow is based on Tucson Fire Department policies, manufacturer requirements, and applicable NFPA standards.

Skill Based Pay/Certifications and expected timeline:

The Emergency Vehicle Technician Supervisor classification is included in a skill-based pay plan which provides compensation for achieving and maintaining 30 ASE and EVT certifications required for this position as listed below. ASE and EVT certification fees are paid for by the department with a passing score. Employees in this classification are required to progress through the levels of certification in a consecutive manner as listed below.

Entrance into the classification requires achievement of the following certifications within the first year of employment:

Tier 1 ASE

Certifications:

• ASE A5 Brakes
• ASE T4 Brakes
• ASE T5 Suspension & Steering
• ASE T6 Electrical/Electronic Systems Tier 1 EVT

Certifications:

• EVT F1 Maintenance, Inspection, and Testing of Fire Apparatus
• EVT F5 Aerial Fire Apparatus
• EVT E0 Maintenance, Inspection, and Testing of Ambulances
• EVT M1 Management Level 1 Supervisor Achievement of the following certifications is required upon completion of the second year of employment:

Tier 2 ASE

Certifications:

• ASE T2 Diesel Engines
• ASE T8 Preventive Maintenance
• ASE A4 Suspension and Steering
• ASE A9 Light Vehicle Diesel Engines Tier 2 EVT

Certifications:

• EVT F3 Fire Pumps & Accessories
• EVT F6 Allison Automatic Transmissions
• EVT M2 Management Level 2 Supervisor Achievement of the following certifications is required upon completion of the third year of employment

Tier 3 ASE Certifications
• ASE T1 Gasoline Engines
• ASE T7 Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning
• ASE A6 Electrical/Electronic Systems Tier 3 EVT Certifications
• EVT F4 Fire Apparatus Electrical Systems
• EVT E3 Ambulance Heating, Air Conditioning & Ventilation Achievement of the following certifications is required upon completion of the fourth year of employment:
