Job Description Summary

Under supervision guides dialogue between parties, ensuring all voices are heard and helping to clarify each side's needs and concerns to establish a solution while maintaining strict impartiality, avoiding any bias throughout the negotiation process. Explain the mediation process to parties, legal precedents, and relevant policies to ensure all parties make informed decisions. Help parties brainstorm creative options for settlement and evaluate the pros and cons of different alternatives.

Hiring Hourly Range: $26.39-$29.03

Range Explanation
  • Hiring Range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
  • The position is in pay grade 11, which may constitute a promotional opportunity for current county staff. Promotional increase will be determined at the time of offer.
Distinguishing Characteristics

This is a classified position that reports to the Director of Conciliation Court. The incumbent performs duties under limited supervision and has no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, criminal justice or a related field with demonstrated familiarity with basic mental health interventions, case management and community support. Or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.

Familiarity with outlined areas may be gained through additional education and workshops, documented formal internships, or work‑experience.

Preference

May be given to those fluent in both English and Spanish.

May be given to those who have at least two (2) years of paid experience providing direct services as outlined above.

Essential Duties & Functions
  • Coordinates and provides legal decision making/parenting time mediation to parents as referred by the Courts and prepares written legal decision making and parenting time agreements.
  • Conducts screenings and clinical interviews to gather information.
  • Initiates appropriate referrals to community resources and social service agencies.
  • Delivers educational presentations to parents, schools, agencies, community groups and conferences on topics related to marriage, divorce, and child custody issues.
  • Evaluates client services through development and implementation of surveys, questionnaires, and other appropriate research tools.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports.
  • Gathers data and provides monthly data reports.
Additional Responsibilities/Duties
  • Prepares case summaries and comprehensive reports and makes written recommendations to the Court.
  • Serves as consultant to Judges and legal counsel relative to psychological impact of divorce.
  • Participates in department meetings to discuss issues that require the court’s attention.
  • Performs related projects and duties as assigned.
  • Reliable and predictable attendance is considered essential for this position along with adherence to set work schedule such as designated lunchtime. The division needs to be consistently available to judges, court and Pima County staff, and Conciliation Court clients.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Must have excellent software usage skills to prepare court documents, enter and track data into court’s databases and compose business correspondence.
  • Must have knowledge of techniques and practices of marriage/family counseling, mediation, crisis intervention and custody evaluations.
  • Must have knowledge of the dynamics of divorce and its impact on families.
  • Must have knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence and its impact on children and families.
  • Must have knowledge of child development theory.
  • Must have some knowledge of community resources and social service agencies.
