Position: Child Life Assistant for Sibling Center at Banner Health Tucson, AZ

Child Life Assistant – Sibling Center – Banner Health University Medical Center, Tucson, AZ.
Full‑time, Monday‑Friday 9:30am‑6:00pm.

Position Summary

This position helps maintain a safe, healing environment for children and assists in meeting the needs of children and families to reduce the stress accompanying hospitalization. Serves patients from birth to 18years of age.

Core Functions

Trains and supervises volunteers, including university students, providing orientation, supervision, and recognition to ensure a safe environment and effective use of volunteer time.

Monitors and maintains a safe, organized, and clean playroom, toys, and other materials, follows infection‑control policies and teaches volunteers these procedures.

Assists in planning and conducting group activities in the playroom and individualized activities in patient rooms, tailored to the developmental needs of hospitalized children.

Interacts with potential donor groups regarding the needs of hospitalized children, provides tours, receives donations, determines appropriateness, prepares for use, and acknowledges all donations professionally.

Assists with detailed planning of events, hosts and monitors visits from entertainers or community groups, maintains patient confidentiality and safety, and provides education to community groups.

Provides assistance to nursing staff with high‑need patients, assesses needs, communicates developmentally appropriately, informs families, and offers resources for coping.

Although based in pediatrics, may serve in any area of the hospital with children, including emergency, surgery, and adult unit waiting areas.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree or equivalent in a related field.
One year of experience working with children, demonstrating responsibility, flexibility, and sensitivity.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Hospital pediatric experience, special education, or experience with developmentally disabled children.
Bachelor's degree in a related area.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
