Lead Driver – Tucson, AZ
Salary Range: $35.00 – $38.00 hourly
Duties include operating Diesel Direct fuel delivery vehicles with a focus on safety and customer courtesy; performing daily pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections; fueling the vehicles; preparing trip reports; preparing accident and incident reports as necessary. The Lead Driver serves as the on‑site supervisor and primary point of contact for the driver team. This role is responsible for supporting daily operations, ensuring efficient workflow, and maintaining high performance standards across both driving and warehouse functions.
Key Responsibilities- Be the go‑to person for drivers
- Know the customers, stops, and windows
- Have a thorough knowledge of handhelds and be able to get one up and running for the driver
- Be a leader, set the example, and communicate with the drivers
- Always carry the night rec sheets
- Train new hires
- Be ready to respond to an accident or spill
- Operate assigned vehicle safely and courteously
- Deliver fuel per customer time and delivery requirements
- Fuel vehicles at various locations, recording fuel dispensed electronically or on a service breakdown sheet
- Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date records on trip sheets, customer and vehicle maintenance, fuel purchases (BOL), incident reports, accident reports, and vehicle condition reports requested by management
- Work safely while loading and unloading company vehicles
- Serve as a communication link between customers and staff
- Read and interpret maps, directions, and road signs to plan efficient routes
- Keep the assigned vehicle(s) clean inside and outside
- Report immediately any accident, fuel spill, or medical emergency to your supervisor
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the on‑site supervisor

- Support route coverage and deliveries to meet service levels
- Train, coach, and develop drivers to maintain safety and performance standards
- Assist in any operational area directed by the Operations Manager
- Monitor and oversee daily activities of on‑site staff for productivity and compliance
- Help resolve issues, coordinate tasks, and maintain smooth day‑to‑day operations
- Ability to drive multiple vehicles safely and appropriately, including reading and interpreting road signs in English
- Detail oriented and able to prioritize
- Understand and adhere to the rules and regulations of the Federal Department of Transportation
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish professional relationships with customers, co‑workers, and upper‑level staff
- Prepare concise and accurate records and reports; extensive knowledge of vehicle operations and features
- Recognize vehicle maintenance needs; interpret policies, procedures, maps, and route directions (overtime sometimes required)
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
The Lead Driver is expected to be flexible, hands‑on, and proactive, stepping in wherever needed to support the team and ensure operational success.
