Position TitlePet Pantry Support Specialist
Job PurposeThe Pet Pantry Support Specialist supports the effective operation and delivery of HSSA’s Pet Pantry Program by ensuring the safe, organized, and efficient distribution of pet food and supplies to community members. This role contributes to a welcoming, respectful, judgement free and accessible client experience while supporting program logistics, inventory management, material handling, donor processing, and community distribution events that help keep pets and families together.
EssentialFunctions
- Program Operations & Distribution Support
- Support setup and breakdown of pet pantry distribution sites and events
- Assist with receipt, staging, and organization of incoming donations and supplies
- Prepare and assemble pet food and supply distributions for community members
- Assist with loading and staging supplies for distribution events and program needs
- Inventory & Facility Support
- Maintain organized storage areas and ensure supplies are properly sorted and accessible
- Assist with inventory tracking, rotation, and replenishment processes
- Support cleanliness and organization of pantry storage and work areas
- Assist with donation intake and preparation for distribution
- Material Handling & Inventory Support
- Safely receive, move, organize store and distribute pet food, supplies, and donated items
- Operate forklifts and other authorized material-handling equipment to unload deliveries, move pallets, organize inventory, and support distribution activities
- Maintain safe, organized storage areas, including conference room storage spaces, outdoor storage containers, and other designated inventory locations
- Follow all safety procedures related to equipment operation, inventory handling, and storage practices
- Complete and maintain required training, evaluation, and authorization for equipment operation
- Community & Volunteer Support
- Support volunteers during pantry setup, distribution, and breakdown activities
- Provide respectful, client-centered customer service to community members
- Represent HSSA in a professional, positive, and mission-aligned manner
- General Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with safety procedures and organizational policies
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, move and transport up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely perform physical work involving inventory handling in a shelter, and outdoor community distribution environment loading and unloading, and distribution of pet pantry related items.
- Ability and willingness to safely operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment as an essential function of the position.
- Ability to successfully complete and maintain HSSA-approved forklift training, evaluation, and authorization in accordance with OSHA/ADOSH Powered Industrial Truck requirements within a designated timeframe following hire.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Valid Arizona driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Experience in inventory management, logistics, material handling or supply distribution
- Previous forklift experience
- Current forklift certification
- Experience in animal welfare, nonprofit programs, logistics, or human services environments
- Customer service experience in community-facing roles
- Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency
- Strong attention to safety and detail in material handling and distribution activities
