Role

The Mobile Phlebotomist, under the general supervision of the Phlebotomy Supervisor, works to provide clinical pre-analytical laboratory services to our clients/patients in a mobile setting. They are responsible for completing their assigned routes in a safe and timely manner and must follow all policies and procedures.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Manages his/her assigned shift to include meal breaks.

  • Drive vehicle to client facilities, typically nursing homes, as directed by the company dispatcher.
  • Unload phlebotomy tray and take it to patient’s bedside to collect samples ordered by physician.
  • Accurately identify patient before collecting specimen(s).
  • Accurately collect, label, process, and deliver specimens obtained from patients.
  • Reload equipment and all necessary specimens to vehicle for prompt delivery.
  • Regularly communicate with dispatcher to report status and location and create all required records per instructions.
  • Strictly adhere to Universal Precautions in controlling blood‑borne pathogens and infectious disease exposures.
  • Maintain required certifications, health requirements, and operational requirements.
  • Keep work area clean and follow all required safety precautions at all times.
  • Report any unsafe conditions in the workplace.
  • Report all complaints and problems encountered.
  • Monitor supplies inventory, report low stock or out‑of‑stock situations, and identify and segregate any expired supplies.
  • Report to work promptly, properly groomed, and wear the proper identification at all times when visiting a facility.
  • Accurately maintain time records of hours worked and deliver to company as directed.
  • Make changes to records only per approved instructions when needed.
  • As needed, be on call for evenings and weekends; irregular unscheduled overtime may be required based on company workload or absenteeism.
Required Skills
  • Excellent communication and interaction skills appropriate to the population served, including pediatric and geriatric communities.
  • Treat customers and patients with respect, dignity, and discretion; acknowledge residents’ rights and patients’ right to refuse.
  • Demonstrate regular attendance.
  • Current, valid State phlebotomy license (if required).
  • Current, valid State Driver’s license; car insurance; good driving record; possess a vehicle in good working condition suitable to meet daily driving requirements.
  • Proficiency in venipuncture and skin puncture using both vacutainer and syringe techniques.
  • Knowledge of laboratory operations.
  • Maintain sterile, sanitary conditions to prevent contamination.

The standard medical laboratory environment is one in which potential health hazards do exist. This includes consistent and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment.

Associates work in all weather and driving conditions.
