This is a highly hands-on senior engineering role operating within a very small, fast-moving IT team where each member directly contributes to system stability, security, and business continuity. The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for the full lifecycle of the environment and is expected to design, build, and operate critical infrastructure components across on-premises and cloud platforms.
Day-to-day operational ownership is foundational to this role. The engineer performs deep technical work, resolves complex issues, implements new solutions, and optimizes existing systems while ensuring that every part of the environment remains secure, scalable, reliable, and aligned with business needs. This position requires practical expertise, strong accountability, and the ability to deliver enterprise-quality solutions in a small-team setting.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary architect and technical authority for Windows Server, Azure, and Microsoft 365 platforms.
- Design and maintain Azure Landing Zone foundations, hybrid networking, and identity configurations.
- Modernize virtualization (Hyper‑V/VMM), SAN storage architecture, performance baselines, and environment segmentation.
- Power Shell automation for provisioning, configuration enforcement, compliance, and monitoring.
- Implement Zero Trust, Conditional Access, MFA, RBAC, Privileged Identity Management, and security baselines across hybrid environments.
- Integrate centralized secrets management with Azure Key Vault, including automated rotation.
- Architect and maintain Next-Generation Firewall appliances including policies, segmentation, and threat protection capabilities.
- Ensure compliance with NIST CSF framework.
- Automate identity lifecycle processes, access reviews, and audit reporting.
- Architect Intune for MDM/MAM, device compliance, configuration policies, RBAC, and app protection.
- Manage Microsoft 365 workloads including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and security/governance layers.
- Automate configurations using Power Shell and Microsoft Graph API.
- Design and maintain secure VLAN architectures, routing, segmentation, and site-to-site VPN connectivity.
- Manage Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching, routing protocols, wireless infrastructure, and resilience strategies.
- Build monitoring and alerting processes for network and connectivity health.
- Deploy, configure, and optimize Azure SQL and on-prem MS SQL Server environments including performance, HA/DR, and security.
- Own backup and recovery strategy using Veeam Backup & Replication for on-prem and cloud workloads.
- Automate Azure resource provisioning, backup verifications, and policy enforcement.
- Manage and optimize SAN environments including provisioning, replication, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
- Support clustering, replication, and high-availability designs for critical workloads.
- Own monitoring strategy for uptime, performance, alerting, and proactive remediation.
- Collaborate with internal teams to troubleshoot complex application, networking, and infrastructure issues.
- Maintain detailed documentation, architecture diagrams, SOPs, and runbooks.
- Automate patching, health checks, and compliance enforcement using Power Shell where appropriate.

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer/Information Science or equivalent experience
- 8–12+ years in senior systems engineering roles
- 5+ years designing Microsoft 365 and Azure solutions
- Demonstrated ability to execute secure, scalable, reliable hybrid architectures
