Building Maintenance, HVAC Tech / Heating Engineer
The City of Tukwila is currently searching for a Facility Maintenance Technician to join our team! The Facility Maintenance Technician will perform a variety of semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, repair, and construction duties at various City facilities. This position is part of the Public Works Department that protects the health and safety of residents, visitors, and businesses. The Department designs and maintains the City's essential transportation, water, sewer, surface water infrastructure.
Public Works also supports other departments through the purchase and upkeep of the City's vehicles and facilities.
The City of Tukwila is 9.6 square miles of opportunity and a dynamic place to work. The population is over 22,000 at night and up to 150,000+ during the day. Tukwila shares borders with the cities of Seattle, Renton, Sea Tac, Burien and Kent. Its central location lies in the heart of the Puget Sound region, sitting 12 miles south of downtown Seattle, 17 miles north of downtown Tacoma, and just east of Sea Tac Airport.
It is easily accessed by I-5 and I-405 or via either of Tukwila's two train stations, the Sounder Station or the Sound Transit Light Rail Station.
The mission of the Facility Maintenance unit is to preserve all buildings through preventive maintenance, repair, and operating program in order to provide a safe, pleasant and productive work environment for City staff and clients. The work is located in thirty-eight facilities throughout the City, consisting of approximately 233,633 square feet, of which 149,957 square feet is provided with custodial care.
Facilities maintained consist of the main City Hall (6200 Building), the 6300 Building, a large community center, the Justice Center, Minkler, and Golf maintenance facilities, several public restrooms, and various other buildings.

$6,237 - $7,579 per month, plus excellent benefits. This position is represented by the Teamsters, Local #763.

- Performs semi-skilled to skilled preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, structural, and security systems; may perform minor maintenance and repair to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, and boilers at assigned locations.
- Performs facility safety inspections and walk-throughs; establishes routine general maintenance project schedules; estimates costs for repairs, modifications, or additions and makes recommendations to supervisor; writes up work orders.
- Determines scope of work for routine general maintenance and repairs; solicits bids; selects contractors and coordinates contractor work around facility schedules; coordinates multiple routine maintenance contracts simultaneously.
