The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Composite Machining Technical Analyst to support our Composite Materials & Structures (CM&S) team located in Tukwila, WA.
CM&S is a research and development organization within the Engineering & Technology Innovation (E&TI) division focused on fabrication of composite parts with both development and existing materials. The team matures an idea and through hands‑on experiments, tests, and demonstrations, developing these concepts into producible part(s) that support multiple business units and programs across Boeing’s portfolio. In our state‑of‑the‑art composite fabrication labs, our engineers and technical analysts lead and execute a variety of composite materials & fabrication development projects, transforming ideas into reality.
We work closely with other E&TI groups, Boeing Commercial Airlines (BCA) Product Development (PD), and BCA Airplane Program teams to identify, develop and transition technology needs to Boeing products.
As a Composites Machining Technician, you will work both independently and collaborate with experienced peers to conduct hands‑on composite manufacturing trials, fabricate test articles, and execute laboratory experiments to support the use of new materials, processes, and tools in the engineering and manufacture of products. The chosen candidate will be motivated, self‑driven and will have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in the trimming, drilling, milling, hand machining, NC Programming, part fixturing, dimensional inspection, and machining cutter & process development. Your work will be primarily performed on multi‑axis milling machines (3‑ and 5‑axis). This is an on‑site position, and you will be expected to spend most of your time in a laboratory environment. We are a collaborative team and you will work with cross‑functional teammates including MP&P Engineers, Design & Structural Engineers, Quality Engineers & Inspectors, Test Engineers & Operators, Assembly mechanics, and support teams so a collaborative attitude and willingness to work together are vital to our team’s success.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to a highly motivated team of engineers and technicians to fabricate test and manufacturing demonstration articles via NC Programming and machining/trimming/drilling.
- Perform analysis and evaluation of machined parts & materials, machining/milling/drilling/trimming processes, technology, or equipment through research and testing to ensure safety, reliability and adherence to requirements and specifications.
- Provide feedback, such as best practices for part machining to Engineers for test plan creation, document results and give future recommendations.
- Determine suitability of parts, materials and processes for meeting engineering part requirements.
- Support continuous improvement of products and processes by assisting with designing, developing, fabricating, testing, evaluating and implementing new concepts and technology.
- Support the training and development of others.
- Maintain clean and organized work spaces in accordance with labs housekeeping guidelines and 5S standards.
- 3+ years of experience with 5-Axis & 3-Axis NC/CNC Milling Machine
- 3+ years of experience reading and interpreting engineering documents and drawings
- 3+ years of experience working a laboratory environment
- Associate’s degree or certificate degree or equivalent years of experience
- 3 and 5 Axis Programming and Machining
- 2 axis Lathe programming and machining
- Manual lathe and machining operations
- Design and assembly skills using CATIA, NX and/or Solid Works
- Ability to utilize CATIA & Mastercam CAM Programming Software
- Willingness to work in a dynamic setting with shifting daily priorities
