Rainier Shade is looking for a reliable, hands-on Service Technician to join our team. We install and service retractable awnings, motorized exterior screens, patio covers, fixed-frame awnings, shade structures, and related outdoor living products throughout the greater Seattle area.

Rainier Shade is a long-standing Seattle-area shade company serving residential and commercial customers. Our work includes custom awnings, screens, shade systems, patio covers, and exterior comfort solutions for homes, restaurants, commercial buildings, and outdoor spaces.

We are a small but growing team, and we’re looking for someone who wants to become a dependable part of the company long-term.

Position Summary

The Service Technician will handle service calls, repairs, adjustments, inspections, maintenance, and smaller installation-related tasks. This person will work directly with customers in the field and will be responsible for diagnosing issues, completing repairs when possible, documenting findings, and communicating clearly with our office team.

This role requires someone who is mechanically inclined, professional, dependable, and comfortable working outside in different conditions.

Typical Responsibilities
  • Perform service and repair work on retractable awnings, motorized screens, fixed awnings, patio covers, and related shade products
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, motor, sensor, fabric, frame, and installation-related issues
  • Replace parts, make adjustments, complete minor repairs, and document larger repair needs
  • Inspect products and determine what is needed to complete the work properly
  • Communicate clearly with customers while on site
  • Take photos, notes, measurements, and service documentation
  • Work safely on ladders and around homes, buildings, and commercial job sites
  • Keep tools, materials, parts, and company equipment organized
  • Coordinate with the office and project team regarding schedules, parts, follow-up work, and customer needs
  • Assist with installations or shop work as needed

  • Mechanically inclined and good at figuring things out
  • Dependable, punctual, and professional
  • Comfortable working with tools, ladders, fasteners, motors, brackets, and outdoor products
  • Able to communicate respectfully with customers
  • Detail-oriented and willing to document work clearly
  • Able to work independently once trained
  • Safety-conscious and physically capable of field work
  • Interested in learning a specialized trade
Helpful Experience

Experience in any of the following is helpful, but not required if you are a strong learner:

  • Awnings, screens, shades, patio covers, or exterior products
  • Construction, carpentry, installation, handyman work, or service work
  • Low-voltage wiring, motors, remotes, sensors, or troubleshooting
  • Window coverings, garage doors, gates, signs, glass, roofing, siding, or exterior building products
  • Customer-facing field service work
Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and clean/reasonable driving record
  • Ability to lift, carry, climb ladders, and work outdoors
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely
  • Professional communication with customers and team members
  • Reliable attendance and transportation
  • Willingness to learn our products and processes
  • Ability to pass any required employment screening
Compensation

Pay is based on experience. We are open to training the right person, but we are also willing to pay more for someone with strong relevant experience.

Estimated pay range: $21–$25 per hour, depending on experience.

Schedule

Full-time preferred. Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, daytime hours. Some flexibility may be needed depending on customer appointments, weather, and project needs.
