OverviewBeyond New Horizons (BNH) is responsible for the design, operation, and maintenance of the infrastructure required to test flight, defense, and aerospace systems in the ground test facilities at Arnold Engineering Development Complex at Arnold AFB, Tennessee. This infrastructure includes equipment such as electric motors, compressors, hydraulic systems, refrigeration systems, heaters, dryers, power systems, measurement and data acquisition systems, control systems, and more.
We do not design or conduct analysis of the vehicles; we design, operate, and maintain the systems which enable ground test of models and subassemblies to provide our customers with the data they need to make decisions on design and flight-worthiness.

Job SummaryThe Beyond New Horizons cooperative education program for engineering and technical disciplines offers up to three consecutive full time employment terms for undergraduate students. As part of the co-op experience, you are paired with experienced engineers and scientists who serve as your mentor(s) in completing real engineering or technical work gaining valuable experience in your field of study while contributing to Department of War, Air Force and BNH missions.
These are real engineering/technical assignments that need to be completed, not busy work to keep you occupied. Positions are located on site (not remote) at Arnold AFB, Tennessee.
- Complete engineering and technical tasks as assigned with appropriate level of rigor
- Engage with engineers and technical experts around the complex to broaden your engineering network and resources
- Attend meetings, facility tours, briefings, workshops, and events as scheduled
- Prepare and present a briefing on work accomplished at the end of each term to BNH management and AF Program Manager
- It is a condition of employment to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy

, and projected graduation date (month and year) in order to be considered. We will not reach out to obtain information that was requested but not included. - Must be enrolled in an accredited university program and pursuing a degree in one of the following disciplines:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering (interest or experience in 3-phase power systems, troubleshooting & maintenance)
- Mechatronics Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Computer Science (C, C++, Python programming courses or experience; web development or Machine Learning/AI courses or experience)
- At least sophomore status (45 credit hours) completed by August 2026
- Minimum GPA of 2.75
- Ability to work 40 hours each week for ~14-16 weeks each term worked beginning August/September 2026
- Must have reliable transportation to transport oneself from building to building within the industrial complex
- Must be able to pass required background checks and obtain and maintain access to the AEDC local area network
- Due to Air Force Security requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required for employment at AEDC
- Active Department of Defense/War Secret Security Clearance
- Demonstrated intellectual curiosity
- Self-driven with the ability to seek out requirements with minimal direction
- Positive attitude and willingness to receive feedback
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
- Desire to work on a team with energy and commitment to the work assigned
