The Hazardous Waste Specialist is responsible for managing, reporting, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations related to hazardous waste, solid waste, stormwater, and hazardous materials. This role supports regulatory permitting, reporting, inspections, and environmental planning activities while ensuring alignment with RCRA, TDEC, and internal SHE standards.
Key Responsibilities Regulatory Compliance & Permiting- Maintain and support RCRA permits, including Permit TNHW-179 and all related permit modifications
- Ensure compliance with hazardous waste regulations, generator requirements, and storage standards
- Develop, maintain, and update compliance plans including the Hazardous Waste Compliance Plan and Hazardous Waste Reduction Plan
- Support the Environmental Impact Analysis Process (EIAP) and Programmatic Environmental Assessments (PEA)
- Prepare and submit required environmental reports, including:
- Hazardous Waste Generator and Storage Fees
- Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Reporting (TSDR) Annual Fee Sheet
- Fee Form GFDS
- Annual Used Oil Report
- Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) Report
- Recycling and Diversion Survey
- Solid Waste Origin Reports (AID Memorandum)
- Maintain and support the Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan (ISWMP – T‑EMP)
- Prepare Storm Water Compliance Reports for Paint Operations and Landfill activities
- Support Triannual Engineering Reports for Landfill (SWOR)
- Assist with landfill and solid waste compliance and reporting requirements
- Develop and maintain environmental management plans including:
- Hazardous Materials Management Plan (HMMP)
- Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures Plan (SPCC)
- Support SHE standards implementation and ongoing compliance
- Conduct technical reviews related to environmental programs and documentation
- Conduct and support MICT self‑assessments
- Respond to environmental data calls and regulatory inquiries
- Provide technical support during audits and inspections
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Working knowledge of RCRA hazardous waste regulations and environmental compliance programs
- Experience preparing regulatory reports and working with environmental agencies
- Strong documentation, organizational, and technical writing skills
- Ability to interpret environmental regulations and apply them to operations
- Experience working with TDEC or similar state environmental agencies
- Experience with landfill, stormwater, or solid waste compliance programs
- Familiarity with SHE standards and environmental management systems
- Prior experience supporting environmental audits or inspections
- Combination of office and field‑based work
- May require site inspections and coordination with operational teams
- Occasional interaction with regulatory agencies
