Collaborate with industry experts to develop solutions to mission‑critical challenges, such as NASA’s return to the moon, the DoD’s national security initiatives, international automotive manufacturers’ development of fuel‑efficient and electric vehicles, and the DoE’s energy research. Responsibilities
  • Lead project teams to develop new designs for process systems supporting automotive and aerospace research and test facilities.
  • Take ownership of the technical schedule and budget performance of assigned work.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate engineering work through the selection and adaptation of techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Analyze features or work and apply sound engineering principles and practices.
  • Review results from assigned tasks and determine if results are complete, correct, and adequately documented.
  • Develop technical reports and presentations for project management and clients.
  • Formally check the work of others for completeness.
  • Work closely with structural, machine design, controls and instrumentation, and aerodynamics/fluid dynamics engineers.
  • Size and specify piping/ducting and associated components; select compressors, pumps, fans, valves, flow measurement and fluid conditioning equipment.
  • Design high‑pressure cryogenic and pneumatic piping systems, high‑temperature systems (including steam), refrigeration, vacuum, and fuel systems, and specialty HVAC systems and components.
  • Provide installation support and supervision; coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors and other trades from the office and project sites.
  • Create engineering calculations, specifications, and oversee creation of engineering drawings.
  • Travel as required for design reviews, factory acceptance tests, construction support, and startup/commissioning activities.
  • Participate in proposal development and support marketing activities.
  • Perform field work, including climbing test stands and working around machinery.
  • Work independently and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team to meet project budgets and schedules.
Qualifications
  • B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited engineering school.
  • Minimum 5years of progressive design experience, or 2–3years of experience and an M.S. degree from an accredited engineering school.
  • Prior design experience with process systems is preferred.
  • Self‑motivated, able to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Ability to work in a multi‑disciplinary team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Strong mechanical and process engineering analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong technical problem‑solving and organizational approach.
  • High ethical values and commitment to continuous development.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Knowledge of AMSE B31.1, B31.3, ASME B&PV Code, thermodynamics, fluid flow (compressible and in compressible), thermal sciences, and process systems.
  • Experience designing and maintaining mechanical process systems is preferred.
  • Software experience in AutoCAD, Auto Pipe, Caesar II, Mathcad, Creo, AFT is preferred.
  • FE/EIT certification is a preferred skill.
  • Previous experience with DOE, DoD, NASA, or test facility work is highly desirable.

Work Environment Requirements
  • Field work may be required, including climbing test stands and working around machinery.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • 80–90% time in office; 10–20% on site; occasional travel 10–20%.
  • Work schedule:

    1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift; overtime as needed to meet project schedules.
  • Hybrid work arrangement possible for proven performers.
Compensation

$90,000 – $100,000 (actual compensation may vary based on job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, and relevant market data).
