Senior Process Mechanical Designer

Job Summary

Senior Process Mechanical Designer – Join our team turning abstract ideas into realities. Collaborate with industry experts to develop solutions to mission‑critical challenges, such as NASA’s return to the moon, the DoD’s national security initiatives, international automotive manufacturers’ development of fuel‑efficient and electric vehicles, and the DoE’s energy research.

• Lead and manage drawing packages of process mechanical projects as part of a multi‑discipline team.
• Prepare detailed construction drawings for pipe/duct layouts and mechanical equipment, engineering calculations, sketches, and design information according to project standards and procedures.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, structural, and project team members to produce complete and timely drawing packages, spreadsheets, and databases related to design.
• Oversee and provide guidance to a team of designers and drafters; check and review work of other designers and drafters.
• Perform creative design from general concepts and field measurements; operate CAD equipment and may train other employees on its use.
• Perform complex drafting assignments with general instructions and work from furnished or self‑generated computations and sketches.
• Perform other related duties as required.

• Provide drafting team leadership on major projects of considerable scope and complexity.
• Provide layout and assembly of complete drawing packages for large projects.
• Provide oversight on assignments to a team of designers and drafters.
• May check the work of other designers and drafters.
• Review work in progress and coordinate work with the Lead Engineer and Project Manager.
• Perform creative design from general concepts and field measurements.
• Operate CAD equipment and may train other employees on the use of CAD equipment.
• Perform complex drafting assignments with general instructions and working from furnished or self‑generated computations and sketches.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Office‑based work for 80–90% of the time; occasional site visits requiring access around construction and project sites (10–20%). Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Minimum requirements:

10+ years progressive process mechanical designer experience including pipe/duct layout and routing and equipment layout; 2 years vocational or college training with drafting or engineering courses or equivalent experience; US citizenship; proficiency in CAE/CAD systems (Auto Cad, 3D modeling software such as Smart Plant, Plant3D, Revit, Inventor, Creo, or equivalents); strong leadership, organization, planning, communication, and problem‑solving skills; working knowledge of drafting principles (descriptive geometry, lettering, dimensioning, layout, detail, etc.);

ability to produce detailed design and shop drawings accurately and efficiently.

Hourly rate: $43.27/hr (subject to change based on experience, education, and market data).
