Overview
Amentum Advanced Solutions (AS) is a performance unit of Amentum Engineering & Technology. Advanced Solutions specializes in developing, designing, constructing, and operating unique and complex research and development, scientific, and test facilities, including wind tunnels, rocket test stands, climatic chambers, jet engine test cells, acoustic chambers, altitude test facilities, captive trajectory systems, and nuclear facilities. AS projects span the automotive, motorsports, defense, nuclear, and aerospace markets.
AS is seeking an Entry Level Power Systems Design Engineer to support several projects in a dynamic environment.
- Develop drawings including one-line diagrams, elementary wiring diagrams, power system plans, lighting plans, and installation details.
- Design power distribution systems with load flow, short circuit, arc flash analyses, system safety, and human safety considerations.
- Develop power distribution protection schemes with coordination and transfer studies.
- Perform load calculations for sizing electrical components, cables, conduit, and equipment spacing.
- Specify major electrical system components including substations, switch gear, distribution panels, MCCs, transformers, disconnects, and drives for low and medium voltage AC and DC systems.
- Design lighting systems for test facilities including illumination level and lighting quality analysis.
- Develop interfaces to facility equipment using hardwired interfaces and industrial networks.
- Apply NEC, NESC, NFPA 70E, and other applicable codes in developing state-of-the-art solutions for the client.
- Support quality system processes such as checking work of others, following standard procedures, and ensuring compliance to codes and standards.
- Support hardware assembly and fabrication during factory and onsite installation.
- Perform power system startup, checkout, and commissioning, domestically and internationally.
- Communicate with clients and management regarding project status.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and departments to ensure success.
- Estimate system design, material, installation, checkout, commissioning, and activation costs.
- Plan labor resources and schedule project milestones to meet technical scope, budget, and client schedule.
- Develop proposals to capture future work with current clients and new markets.
- Lead power system projects through all phases, including design, fabrication, implementation, testing, and commissioning.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- 0-3 years of experience in power distribution system design, implementation, or commissioning.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with software such as SKM, ETAP, SEL synchroWAVe, Arc Pro is a plus.
- Interest and background in electrical safety, power distribution systems (including switch gear, substations, MCCs, PLCs, drives, protective relays, cables), lightning protection, grounding, lighting design, smart-grid and micro-grid systems, SCADA, and challenging projects.
- Desire to develop inventive approaches and drive innovation during all project phases.
- Ability to work in teams or independently to design, develop, and deliver power system projects.
- Ability to lead single- and multi-discipline engineering teams to generate future workloads and mentor colleagues.

Physical Requirements:
lifting up to 50 lbs, proximity to electrical circuits, and PPE requirements as needed. - Work environment: office, lab, indoor on construction sites, and field work; travel to customer sites for meetings, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Compensation: $61,660 - $101,600 per year (good-faith estimate; actual may vary).
