Job Summary

Responsible for planning, organizing, and administering patient care within the scope of one’s training and expertise. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes, in alignment with hospital objectives, policies, and the Nurse Practice Act of Tennessee.

Hours of Position

Full‑time (36 hours per week) – Night shift (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.)

Unit Overview

Located at Vanderbilt Tullahoma Harton Hospital, the ICU is a 14‑bed unit with a nurse‑to‑patient ratio of 1:2. Patients receive care for conditions such as myocardial infarction, acute respiratory failure, shock, diabetic keto acidosis, and multisystem organ failure. The unit provides a team‑based environment that allows nurses to work with patients across a wide range of critical illnesses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate in establishing the plan of care, coordinate and implement care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
  • Analyze comprehensive information pertinent to the patient’s care and management to determine nursing diagnoses.
  • Continuously utilize the nursing process to evaluate patient progress toward goals and apply appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Employ strategies to promote health and a safe, healthy environment.

Technical Capabilities
  • Patient assessment & evaluation in home care (novice):
    Demonstrate fundamental proficiency in assessing and evaluating patients in moderate difficulty home settings, performing primary care interviews, assessing home safety, and conducting comprehensive physical assessments.
  • Patient education (novice):
    Demonstrate sufficient fundamental proficiency in providing patient education in moderate difficulty applications.
  • Care planning (novice):
    Anticipate resource needs, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work within direct responsibility; manage multiple assignments while maintaining productivity.
  • Evidence‑based nutrition practice (novice):
    Search for nutrition evidence to answer clinical questions and perform assignments under direction of others.

Position Qualifications

Certifications: Registered Nurse (licensure required)

Work Experience: Relevant experience preferred; less than 1 year acceptable for entry‑level.

Education: Graduate of an approved discipline‑specific program.

Competencies:

Strong assessment and communication skills; adaptability; team collaboration; orientation within six weeks. Professional growth encouraged on a 14‑bed ICU with exposure to multiple acuity levels.
