Payroll & General Ledger Accountant

Reports to:

Renee Bolte, Controller

Job Code: 0007

Job Summary:

The Payroll & GL Accountant is responsible for managing accurate and timely payroll processing while supporting general ledger accounting functions. This role maintains financial integrity through reconciliations and journal entries and supports month‑end and year‑end close processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process bi‑weekly payroll for employees accurately and on time
  • Reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies
  • Coordinate with HR on new hires, terminations, and employee department changes

General Ledger Accounting:

  • Prepare and post journal entries related to payroll, benefits, and other expenses
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, including payroll‑related balances
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
  • Maintain accurate supporting documentation and audit trails
  • Analyze financial data and variances related to payroll and benefit costs
  • Support audits by providing requested documentation and explanations
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards

Educational Requirements:

  • 35 years of payroll processing and general ledger accounting experience
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now and Sage Intacct preferred
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting is preferred; relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree

  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, etc.)
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion

Working Conditions:

May require additional hours during payroll processing periods and month‑end close.
