Manager, Financial Accounting and Reporting

Job DescriptionManages the accounting and financial reporting functions.
ResponsibilitiesKey Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate all accounting functions including general accounting and external financial reporting. Supervise and assist employees performing related accounting activities.
- Compile, prepare, verify, and/or approve information and reports and/or supervise and assist employees performing activities including but not limited to:
- Policies and procedures
- Financial statement preparation and variance analysis under GAAP and/or FERC requirements
- SOX processes
- Journal entries
- Reconciliations
- External reporting
- Manage accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting and reporting of financial results.
- Coordinate and/or prepare internal and external financial statements, which includes applicable SEC filings (e.g. Forms 8-K, 10-Q, 10-K and 11-K).
- Lead the technical research and analysis of new and emerging accounting standards. Manage the related implementation projects including the process analysis/improvements and documentation required for the adoption of new accounting standards.
- Provide management with information vital to decision-making processes. Interact with corporate accounting management, corporate financial reporting, business unit management, auditors, regulatory staff, and others regarding accounting activities, processes, and procedures.
- Assess current accounting operations, offer recommendations for improvement, and implement new processes and systems.
- Analyze accounting policies and procedures to ensure the internal controls are accurately documented and working effectively for regulatory compliance and integrity of financial statements and/or reports.
- Update and maintain job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Maintain proper documentation of activities to ensure business continuity and knowledge transfer among personnel.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.
- Employee may be required to perform additional duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
Minimum Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related business field. In addition to education, this role typically calls for eight to ten years of relevant experience (Minimum of seven years' relevant experience is required). Typical experience usually includes two years in a leadership role.
Experience
- Experience with and thorough knowledge of GAAP, SEC, regulatory, and company accounting methods, practices, and procedures.
- Experience with the application of math and algebra.
- Experience in use and function of office equipment including microcomputers and applicable software.
- Experience and/or training related to:
- Financial reporting pursuant to US GAAP and SEC requirements
- Financial accounting
- Technical accounting research
- Account classification
- Supervisory and management skills
- Experience monitoring and analyzing financial data, reports, audits, and regulatory publications.
- Experience researching, preparing, and composing reports, guidelines, financial data, procedures, analyses, presentations, and correspondence.
- Experience reviewing and interpreting company policies and procedures, manuals, FASB pronouncements, FERC uniform accounting procedures, governmental regulations, rate case orders, publications, financial statements, contracts, reports, and correspondence.
- Experience interacting, advising, and communicating effectively.
- Experience supervising, directing, and training. Working knowledge of personnel policies and procedures.
- Experience developing information and conducting group presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to read and write fluently in English.
Licenses and Certifications
Preferred Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Treasury Professional (CTP), or other relevant financial certification.
Minimum Applicable driver's license.
