Access Services Technicians provide support to the Access Services department of Falvey Library. Technicians are responsible for conducting the following tasks:

Responsibilities
  • Provide in‑person customer service at the library service desk. Conduct circulation transactions for patrons and answer patron questions.
  • Search for materials in the library catalog for patrons and direct patrons to reference librarians for research assistance.
  • Process requests and materials for the Pickup & Go holds service.
  • Answer incoming phone calls to the library service desk.
  • Shelve returned books and maintain book stacks.
  • Move book carts, lift and carry books, and search for missing books.
  • Process interlibrary loan materials and update records in specialized library software and systems.
  • Scan pages in journals and books for electronic delivery.
  • Ship materials to other libraries via Fed‑Ex software.
  • Open incoming packages and sort contents for processing.
  • Retrieve materials from local and remote locations.
  • Perform light clerical work, routine office tasks, and run errands as directed.
  • Participate and contribute to library projects as assigned by Access Services staff.
Requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and reliability are all required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with great accuracy and consistency is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to handle difficult situations; customer service experience preferred.
  • Experience using hardware (laptops, PCs, printers, scanners, mobile devices), software (Windows, Mac, web browsers, Novasis, Webmail, Blackboard), and wireless network access preferred.
  • Familiarity with the library’s catalog, journals, databases, and web search engines preferred.
  • Cross‑training in multiple areas required.
Physical Demands
  • Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking for up to 4 hours at a time; frequent bending and lifting; able to lift 30 lbs. of library materials while moving/walking; pushing and pulling a book truck (4 wheels) of library materials weighing between 50 and 100 lbs.; ability to climb several flights of stairs on an occasional basis.
Schedule

Summer Library Service

Hours:

Monday – Thursday: 9am‑5pm (May 18‑May 28)
Monday – Thursday: 9am‑7pm (June 1‑July 29)
Monday – Thursday: 9am‑5pm (August 3‑August 13)
Monday – Friday: 9am‑5pm (August 17‑August 21)
Saturday‑Sunday: 12pm‑5pm (August 22‑23)

Salary

Wage Rate: $11.25/hour
