Job Summary
Under general direction, assists in the planning, organizing and directing of activities within the Juvenile Detention Home related to safety, control of tools and physical restraints.
Job DescriptionSafety-Sensitive Position:
Yes (as defined under Oklahoma Statute Title 63 § 427.8) All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Assist in coordinating and implementing training for health and safety
On call twenty-four hours/day, 7 days/week.
Knowledge of OSHA codes.
Knowledge of key pyramids within a detention facility.
Ability to read and comprehend product safety data specifications and placards.
Ability to design, develop, and implement tool control within a detention facility.
Develop and work with existing detention standards, auditing standards, practices and tools.
Conduct inquiries in a detention facility and provide comprehensive reports for administration review.
Provide training based on statistical data from staff injuries and near misses.
Ensure regulatory compliance with health, safety and fire code.
Develop and conduct thorough inspections.
Assist in the policy review process for health safety and security.
Conduct monthly health and safety meetings.
Coordinate with administration to develop a safety committee.
Assist in video review for incidents reported.
Conduct inspections in the food service area in accordance with the Oklahoma Department of Health codes and accreditation.
Maintains records and reports as necessary and required for inspections, drills and training.
Collaborate with Workers’ Compensation Supervisor and Safety Officer with safety concerns or training.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Description REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Skill in supervising the work of others; in counseling groups and individuals; in developing and implementing program activities; and in personal computers.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of detention and public administration; of agency and departmental policies and procedures and of supervisory principles and practices.
Ability to organize and present facts and opinions clearly and concisely; to develop social skills in others in the authoritative setting; to interpret state statutes, state licensing standards, and ACA and PREA standards to staff; including revision to policy manuals as needed for on-going compliance; to produce technical writing for administrators, County and State officials as required; and to control the work of others.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEEducation equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, two years full-time paid employment in social work, Detention, or closely related work, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICALSKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
