Commercial Paving Project Manager & Estimator
Position Overview
As a Commercial Paving Project Manager & Estimator, you will lead projects from initial bid to closeout, integrating project management, estimation, and client engagement. Your responsibilities include site analysis, detailed cost estimation, bid preparation, project scheduling, and financial oversight to ensure successful delivery and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities- Strategic Analysis & Estimation:
Review blueprints, specifications, and site conditions to define scope and prepare accurate takeoffs for materials, equipment, labor, and production. - Hands‑On Estimating:
Create detailed estimates for self‑performed work, ensuring precision and clarity in every bid. - Business Development:
Cultivate and expand the customer base, leveraging sales acumen to generate new opportunities and build lasting relationships. - Bid Management:
Identify bid opportunities, develop winning packages, and evaluate subcontractor quotes for projects of varying complexity. - Multitasking Excellence:
Manage and bid multiple projects concurrently with strong organizational and time‑management skills. - Collaborative Consultation:
Engage clients, vendors, the Lead Estimator, and stakeholders to refine estimates and present compelling proposals. - Site Engagement:
Conduct regular site visits, monitor progress, update schedules, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate resources with the Construction Manager. - Project Leadership:
Oversee contracted projects, champion safety practices, develop schedules, support forepersons with payroll and reporting, and generate monthly billings. - Financial Oversight:
Review job costs regularly, optimize performance, price change orders, and manage subcontractors and vendors. - Customer Satisfaction:
Maintain open communication with owners and prime contractors to ensure expectations are understood and exceeded. - Continuous Improvement:
Assess progress versus estimates, collaborating with the Lead Estimator to identify enhancement opportunities. - Team Support:
Assist the Lead Estimator on additional projects, field measurements, mileage assessments, and material sourcing. - Technical Proficiency:
Utilize Microsoft Office Suite, HCSS Heavy Bid, ViewPoint, Primavera, Trimble, and other tools, staying current with technology‑driven project management. - Teamwork & Leadership:
Contribute to a collaborative, high‑performance environment, providing strong leadership and support to colleagues and stakeholders. - Adaptability:
Perform other duties assigned by supervisors, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to organizational goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is strongly preferred; equivalent experience may be considered for outstanding candidates.
- Minimum five years of experience in construction, paving, and/or estimating, with a proven record of successful project delivery and client satisfaction.
- Analytical Acumen:
Interpret complex instructions, drawings, correspondence, and memos accurately; strong quantitative skills including calculations, percentages, and ratio analysis. - Communication Expertise:
Exceptional written and verbal communication with customers, clients, and team members. - Technical Savvy:
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and database applications; accurate typing and keyboard skills. - Problem‑Sensing Mindset:
