Job Description

Job Summary:

This position reports to the Director of Instruction and Research and is responsible for providing excellent library customer service to the University of Tulsa. This position is a part-time position with a maximum of 25 hours/week. As the public face of the McFarlin Library, this position serves the campus by processing materials for checkout and return, providing basic research assistance, shelving materials, and overseeing library student workers' evening and weekend shifts.

The position also helps in other areas when needed. This position must be able to work a flexible shift, including nights and weekends.

Essential Functions (Responsibilities):
  • Serves as initial contact to all operational issues related to circulation functions, oversees student employees and building management during evening and weekend shifts
  • Provides exceptional customer service at the library's primary public service desk and throughout the library building, including assistance with directions, basic research (e.g., looking up books), and the library's website.
  • Processes materials at the library's primary public services desk, including checkouts, returns, reserves, holds, recalls, and interlibrary loans.
  • Handling incoming customer inquiries via phone, email, or in person, and transferring to a Librarian as appropriate.
  • Work with Library Instructional team on special projects and routine task work.
Required Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated excellence providing customer service and solving problems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work nights and weekends.
  • Able to work flexible schedules.
  • Experience with personal computers.
  • Physical ability to push carts of books, shift books, and shelve materials.
  • Associate's degree or some college.
  • Experience working in a library setting.
Special Job Dimensions:
  • Must be able to lift 10-15 lbs. of materials.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and lift library materials above your head.
  • Must be able to push heavy book trucks and shelve books in a repetitive motion.
  • Position will require long periods of standing or sitting, depending on the task.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends.
