Job Summary

Provides students with disabilities reasonable accommodations to access their education by evaluating documentation and engaging in an interactive process. They also act as advocates and liaisons, advising both students and employees on how to apply these support services effectively.

Essential Duties

Conducts interactive intake interviews to evaluate students' abilities for appropriate academic accommodations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Provides advocacy and liaison services to students with disabilities regarding accommodations, ADA issues, and other support services as necessary.

Attends trainings to maintain up-to-date knowledge of state and federal laws (504 and ADA) pertaining to serving people with disabilities in a post-secondary education setting.

Ensures the implementation of appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities by working with internal stakeholders to oversee programs and make modifications to ensure accessibility.

Provides training/workshops to staff and faculty to educate and promote disability awareness.

Maintains an electronic database and assists in the development of processes and procedures for the continued operations of Accessibility Resources.

Attends TCC/community events that provide opportunities to education and inform the public of Accessibility Resources.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree with an emphasis in Higher Education Disability Services, Secondary Special Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, or related from a regional accredited institution. Degree requirement may be substituted with relevant and equivalent work experience.

3 years experience in higher education providing accommodations and academic guidance to college students with disabilities.

Cultural competence in working with college students with disabilities, deaf culture and deaf history.

Ability to interpret documentation to determine, administer and manage accommodations for college students with disabilities.

Experience in institutional accessibility and disability policy development, implementation, dissemination, administration, management, oversight, and training.

Knowledge of guidelines endorsed by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and the Higher Learning Commission for higher education institutions.

Knowledge of articulation agreements and coordination of programs with other colleges, universities, and community agencies.

Attention to detail, communication skills, and critical thinking skills.
