WGU is looking for Prelicensure Clinical Instructors (Hourly) to teach and mentor students in experiential clinical coursework. The position is in‑site, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Job Description:

Prelicensure Clinical Instructor – hourly – in‑site. Grade:
Faculty 507. Pay Range: $37.64 – $56.49 per hour.

Job Profile Summary

Prelicensure Clinical Instructors are subject‑matter experts who provide specialized instruction and mentorship during clinical placements. They work as part of a team to support assigned students and ensure successful clinical learning.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Act as a steward of WGU’s mission and strategic vision.
  • Demonstrate commitment, effectiveness, and consistency; serve as a professional role model.
  • Provide expertise in an assigned content area and maintain current knowledge.
  • Participate in the implementation of program philosophy and goals.
  • Foster student learning through innovative teaching practices in clinical settings.
  • Respond urgently to student needs and communicate professionally with students and the WGU community.
  • Provide appropriate student referrals, utilizing WGU policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with students’ coaches/preceptors on progress and concerns.
  • Review and approve clinical time; offer proactive support and outreach.
  • Use technology‑based teaching and communication platforms.
  • Submit electronic clinical evaluation forms after completion.
  • Collaborate with university professionals to promote a positive, student‑obsessed atmosphere.
  • Respond to changing requirements, priorities, and short deadlines.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant state regulations.
  • Conduct in‑person and/or remote student evaluations.

Job Qualifications
  • Minimum: MSN degree, current unencumbered RN license, two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Preferred:
    Doctorate or terminal degree; strong distance education experience; prior clinical teaching/nursing education.
  • Department:
    Leavitt School of Health – Master’s degree in nursing, two years of nursing experience, unencumbered RN license, state/federal legislative and accreditation requirements.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Lift up to 15lb as needed.
  • Occasional travel up to 20%, including attendance at company summits and conferences.
Position & Application Details
  • Part‑time, intermittent (less than 30 standard weekly hours).
