Training Instructor / Specialist, Environmental Science
The Agricultural Education Instructor will report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and serve as the primary hands‑on agricultural instructor for Food On The Move’s student agricultural education programming. This position is responsible for supporting classroom instruction, maintaining agricultural growing systems, tracking program data and production records, and assisting students in experiential learning activities related to plant science, controlled environment agriculture, nutrition, and food systems.
During the school year, this position will work closely with an assigned Tulsa Public Schools instructor to support implementation of the aGrow program and provide technical expertise in agricultural systems and production practices. Non‑school hours will consist of mentoring the summer interns and assist with the aquaponic system.
Responsibilities- Conduct hands‑on agricultural education classes in an engaging and age‑appropriate learning environment
- Support student learning in areas including plant science, hydroponics, aquaponics, microgreens, outdoor growing, nutrition, and food systems education
- Assist the assigned TPS instructor with implementation of daily classroom and laboratory activities
- Provide agricultural subject matter expertise to assist in the continued refinement and improvement of curriculum and learning activities
- Oversee the setup, operation, maintenance, and monitoring of classroom and growing systems, including hydroponic, aquaponic, indoor, and outdoor growing environments
- Maintain accurate records related to crop production, system performance, student participation, and program outcomes
- Monitor plant health, environmental conditions, water quality, and system functionality to ensure successful operation of growing systems
- Passion for agricultural education, student development, and community impact
- Experience working with indoor and/or traditional agricultural growing systems
- Experience working with middle school or high school students preferred
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain accurate records and manage multiple responsibilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, staff, and students
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems in a fast‑paced educational environment
- Demonstrated professionalism, adaptability, and willingness to learn
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
