Company Description Under the Canopy School (UTCS) is a nature-based, public Waldorf-inspired Pre-K–4th grade school that connects students to each other and their community through active engagement with the natural environment. UTCS offers a rigorous academic program enriched with arts and outdoor experiences to support whole-child development. The school’s public Waldorf model is designed to honor each student’s unique strengths and gifts while fostering curiosity and critical thinking.

UTCS emphasizes community health, environmental awareness, and the cultivation of lifelong learners who are prepared to contribute meaningfully to society.

Role Description The Special Education Teacher will provide individualized and small-group instruction to students with diverse learning needs, aligned with IEP and 504 goals and school curriculum. This contract, on-site role is based in Tulsa, OK and involves collaborating closely with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to support student progress. Daily responsibilities include assessing student abilities, adapting instructional materials, implementing behavior and academic interventions, and maintaining accurate documentation.

The Special Education Teacher will lead IEP and 504 meetings, monitor student growth, and integrate UTCS’s nature-based and Waldorf-inspired approaches into inclusive classroom practices.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Special Education and Disabilities, including experience supporting students with a range of learning, emotional, and developmental needs.
  • Demonstrated Teaching skills, preferably with elementary aged students, and ability to differentiate instruction.
  • Strong Communication skills for effective collaboration with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Valid state teaching certification in Special Education or eligibility for certification; bachelor’s degree in education or a related field required.
  • Experience developing and implementing IEPs and 504's, progress monitoring, and using data to inform instruction.
  • Ability to work on-site in Tulsa, OK and engage in outdoor, nature-based learning consistent with UTCS’s educational model.
  • Familiarity with Waldorf or holistic education, trauma-informed practices, and culturally responsive teaching is highly beneficial.
