Purpose

The Mechanical Engineer role requires a proactive and ambitious engineer with strong foundational engineering skills and the capacity to learn new skills and solve problems. The engineer will perform engineering design calculations and prepare design documentation for client projects constructed from the engineering package.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Direction
    • Receive general instruction on key objectives for execution. Receive direction as needed, including complex assignments and modified techniques. Work is completed using advanced techniques and is reviewed by more senior staff for sound professional judgement. Review work produced by junior staff for quality assurance.
  • At the Operational And Company Level
    • Collaborate with other engineering and design disciplines (process, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and design) to ensure a high-quality, comprehensive design.
    • Work with clients in a professional, collaborative manner to capture and incorporate requirements into the engineering and design package.
    • Aid in updating and continuously improving discipline-specific work instructions and procedures.
    • Provide input on ways to improve engineering and design work processes and quality throughout the work phases.
  • Do the Work
    • Support the development of P&’s, coordinating with Process Department to ensure mechanical requirements are depicted and specified on drawings.
    • Perform mechanical design calculations to support piping system and equipment sizing, specifications, and selections; collaborate with Process Department to ensure proper design for intended function.
    • Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards (ASME, API, NFPA, IBC, etc.).
    • Develop detailed specifications for piping systems and mechanical equipment, including inline components, rotating and fixed equipment, and specialty items.
    • Ensure constructability of mechanical packages and perform stress analyses as needed using hand calculations or software.
    • Collaborate with Design to ensure 3D models match engineering documents; resolve conflicts and coordinate with Structural, Electrical, and Instrumentation teams to avoid issues.
    • Support safety reviews and peer checks to ensure high-quality, constructable designs and documentation.
    • Meet safety, schedule, and attendance expectations and perform within the physical and environmental demands of the job.
    • Provide project engineering and management support on smaller projects as required.
    • Periodic site visits to gather data or validate installation of the engineering and design package.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering
  • Experience in Oil & gas or industrial field
  • Strong organization, project management, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with people at all levels
  • Effective computer skills, including MS Office
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team
