A Day in the Life

A Field Service Engineer (FSE) at Medtronic is responsible for the technical support and service of Medtronic Hugo systems at customer sites. The role involves installing, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting devices, providing training to healthcare professionals, and gathering feedback for internal and external teams.

Responsibilities
  • Installs, operates, maintains, repairs, and modifies equipment.
  • Performs maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems, subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations.
  • Analyzes and evaluates product performance.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time.
  • Installs, upgrades, and removes products ensuring coordinated engineering field change.
  • Maintains effective customer communications and relations.
  • May provide onsite training of customer support personnel.
Required Knowledge and Experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (United States) or vocational/technical education or certification (other countries).
  • Relevant experience in clinical field service or clinical customer support.
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside the United States, a degree satisfying 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
Nice to Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering, engineering, or technology field.
  • Experience with robotics or motion control.
  • Previous experience as Technician/Field Services within the medical device industry.
  • Experience with anatomy, surgical protocol, and medical terminology.
  • Technical troubleshooting skills, creativity, and high discipline.
  • Familiarity with common test equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Responsive problem solver and action oriented in resolving customer issues.
  • Performed troubleshooting and repairs on medical devices.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles (electrical, mechanical, thermodynamic, biomedical) to troubleshooting without complete technical documentation.
  • Excellent English writing and verbal communication skills.

Benefits & Compensation

Salary range for U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico): $60,000.00 – $90,000.00.
