Job Summary
The candidate’s primary assignment will be enterprise-wide compliance and program implementation support for power generating station continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS). Responsibilities will also include compliance support for fleet-wide stack emission tests. The individual will exhibit expert or advanced level proficiency that enables them to serve as a subject matter expert. Previous experience and proficiency with 40 CFR Part 60 and Part 75 regulatory requirements, test methods, advanced data management (e.g., SQL, Visual Basic), and data acquisition/EPA reporting software is a must.
Electric utility and permitting experience is preferred.
- Coordinate and perform compliance and support activities such as facility‑level permit and Part 75 interpretation, stack testing, quality assurance reviews, program improvements, training sessions, federal reporting, and compliance audits.
- Provide facility‑level compliance support for CEMS and data acquisition and handling systems (DAHS), including troubleshooting, complex/advanced data analysis, and resolution of issues.
- Serve as an internal expert resource for program regulations, CEMS monitoring and stack test methods and procedures.
- Develop, recommend, and implement plans to address complex compliance problems that require input and effort of a wide array of entities both internal and external to the company.
- Prioritize tasks to ensure responsiveness and support to stakeholders on a time‑sensitive or expedited schedule.
- Identify, resolve, and initiate solutions to complex problems unique to the company that require extensive specialized knowledge or the development of knowledge and techniques.
- Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities of others within work groups, teams, departments, or external consultants, assuming the role of project manager to perform compliance work.
- Demonstrate proficiency in written and verbal communication; lead preparation and presentation of complex technical subjects clearly, concisely, and persuasively, bringing in ancillary issues before senior management, professional organizations, regulatory bodies, etc.
- Identify and initiate proactive comments or changes to regulations and standards in the company’s interests, engaging multiple stakeholders throughout AEP, other companies, professional organizations, and regulatory agencies.
- Has typically acquired 6 or more years of related engineering experience along with a bachelor’s degree in engineering in an ABET‑accredited program.
- Or 4 years of related engineering experience along with a master’s degree or Ph.D. in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program; registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.

Environmental Specialist Principal SG8- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, natural resources, ecology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of environmental experience.
- Has typically acquired 8 or more years of related engineering experience along with a bachelor’s degree in engineering in an ABET‑accredited program.
- Or 6 years of related engineering experience along with a master’s degree or Ph.D. in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program; registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is required unless approval to waive this requirement is given by the organization’s EVP.

Acceptable alternative:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non‑ABET) plus a master’s degree or Ph.D. in engineering from a university with an ABET‑accredited bachelor’s program. Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.
