Job SummaryResponsible to the assigned supervisor for performing advance engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives.
Job Description What You'll Do:Technical Expertise:
Ability to understand and perform load flow analysis, congestion analysis, short circuit and other planning studies as needed. Familiarity with tools such as PSS/E, PROMOD, TARA, and Aspen is a plus. The selected candidate will be expected to partake in competitive transmission windows as well as congestion analysis for generation acquisition. In addition, the candidate will also conduct area-wide studies to assess necessary system improvements to address any reliability deficiencies.
In a Regional Transmission Planning role, the candidate will also have an opportunity to learn about other disciplines as well as the 4 RTOs in which AEP operates.
As a Regional Transmission Planner, you will conduct investigative efforts into problem areas and communicate your findings to the wider team and management to guide policy and financial decisions. You will follow company policies, practices, standards and rules as well as external agency regulations and procedures. You will provide training and guidance to lower-level employees and elevate issues to higher-level leaders as appropriate.
Planning& Organization Ability:
Requires heavy detail orientation and fastidious note taking. You will handle large-scale and breadth problems, providing detailed notes to defend projects. You will resolve routine problems and initiate solutions that may need additional definition. You will identify problems beyond normal routine and seek out opportunities to embrace new ideas.
Communication:You should be comfortable communicating with teams from other disciplines and developing presentations to stakeholders. Presentations could be your own projects, studies or reports. With time, you should communicate effectively with peers and hold clear, concise presentations.
Interpersonal SkillsActive team member. Network with peers inside and outside AEP system, identify key stakeholders, use informal networks to get things done, resolve conflict and build consensus.
Decision Making:Make decisions subject to review within established standards, policies and procedures. Decisions affect team work. Demonstrate risk awareness and extrapolate beyond known facts to reach logical conclusions. Communicate scenarios and advise management based on results.
Business Awareness & Characteristics:Understand AEP's structure and the responsibilities of your unit. Understand budgeting and approval process, economics analysis techniques, utility regulation and financing.

Salary Range: $84,000
Entry level position for new graduates with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in an ABET-accredited program. Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.
Engineer (Grade7)
Has acquired a Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program with two or more years of related engineering experience. Applicants with a Master's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program may be considered for entry at this level. Applicants with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology can satisfy this requirement if they obtain a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license.
Engineer Sr (Grade8)
Has typically acquired 4 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in an ABET-accredited program; or 2 years of related engineering experience along with a Master's or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.
Applicants with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology can satisfy this requirement with a certified PE license.
Engineer Prin (Grade9)
Has typically acquired 8 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in an ABET-accredited program; or 6 years of related engineering experience with a Master's or PhD from an ABET-accredited program. Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is preferred unless waived by the EVP.
Applicants with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology can satisfy this requirement with a certified PE license.
