Job Title:
Product Engineer – Ultrasound Probe Repair Technologies
This role focuses on designing and implementing innovative ultrasound probe repair technologies while continuously improving existing processes and capabilities. You will reverse-engineer OEM ultrasound probes, develop comprehensive repair solutions, and refine current solutions for better manufacturability, efficiency, and cost savings. The work involves micro-scale electrical and mechanical technologies and requires a hands‑on mechanical skill set with functional knowledge of basic electrical circuitry.
You will collaborate closely with operations and technical teams to solve daily technical challenges and support urgent customer needs in a fast‑paced repair manufacturing environment.
- Design and implement new ultrasound probe repair technologies that meet quality, reliability, and performance requirements.
- Reverse‑engineer OEM ultrasound probes to understand design intent and develop comprehensive repair solutions.
- Improve existing repair solutions to enhance manufacturability, process efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
- Work with micro‑scale electrical and mechanical components, including ultrasound arrays, plastic lenses and housings, mechanical articulation systems, printed circuit boards, cables, system interface connectors, PCBs, flexes, and surface mount technologies.
- Design and iterate mechanical components using Solid Works, 3D printing, rapid prototyping, and machining processes.
- Develop and refine fixtures and jigs to support repeatable, high‑quality repair and manufacturing processes.
- Apply GD&T principles to ensure precise and robust mechanical designs.
- Collaborate with the operations technical team to resolve daily and weekly technical issues and support urgent customer needs.
- Conduct time studies and identify opportunities for process improvement and productivity gains.
- Apply Design of Experiments (DOE) and LEAN manufacturing principles to design, validate, and implement improved processes.
- Manage and optimize design for manufacturability, focusing on quality, robustness, ease of manufacture, and cost management.
- Interface with existing suppliers and research new suppliers to access additional capabilities and technologies.
- Contribute to new product introduction and product development processes for repair solutions.
- Coordinate and manage projects related to product design, process implementation, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate across all levels of the business in an immersive, shop‑floor environment, taking on multiple functions and responsibilities as needed.
- Maintain a proactive, “see a need, fill a need” approach by identifying and addressing technical and process gaps.
- Support documentation and standardization of repair and manufacturing processes to ensure consistency and quality.
- Strong hands‑on mechanical engineering skill set with functional knowledge of basic electrical circuitry.
- Proficiency in Solid Works for 3D mechanical design and modeling.
- Experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping to develop and iterate design concepts quickly.
- CNC and manual machining experience with aluminum, plastics, and composite materials.
- Knowledge of soft and injection molding processes for plastic components.
- Experience in fixturing and jig design to support manufacturing and repair operations.
- Working knowledge of GD&T for precise and controlled mechanical design.
- Familiarity with complex machines and equipment used in manufacturing and repair environments.
- Familiarity with PCB and surface mount technology and their application in electronic assemblies.
- Basic understanding of AC and DC circuits and their behavior in electronic systems.
- Demonstrated ability to design for manufacturability with a focus on quality, robustness, ease of manufacture, productivity, and cost management.
- Experience with process design and improvement, including time studies and process implementation.
- Understanding and practical application of LEAN manufacturing principles.
