Full-Time Our client is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in the heat exchanger industry, ideally with exposure to shell and tube heat exchangers, to join their growing engineering team. This role supports the design and development of ASME code pressure equipment within a fast-paced, fabrication-driven, job-shop environment.
This opportunity is open to engineers ranging from early career to highly experienced, with responsibilities and technical ownership aligned to demonstrated capability and industry experience.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working closely with manufacturing and seeing designs move from concept through fabrication.
Position Overview The Mechanical Design Engineer will support the design, analysis, and documentation of pressure-retaining equipment with a strong emphasis on heat exchangers and ASME code design. The role involves close collaboration with fabrication, production, and project teams to ensure equipment is designed for manufacturability, code compliance, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities Perform mechanical design calculations for pressure-retaining equipment
Develop engineering drawings, layouts, fabrication details, and dimensional sketches
Support the design of shell and tube heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and related ASME equipment
Apply ASME Code, TEMA standards, and customer specifications throughout the design process
Issue fabrication drawings, calculations, and engineering documentation for internal and customer review
Collaborate with fabrication, production, and project management teams to support manufacturing success
Assist in troubleshooting engineering and fabrication-related issues
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and manufacturability
Mentor junior engineering staff as experience level dictates
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field(Equivalent technical education with strong mechanical fundamentals may be considered)
Experience in the heat exchanger industry strongly preferred
Experience with shell and tube heat exchangers preferred
Familiarity with ASME Code and TEMA standards
Experience working in a fabrication-driven or job-shop manufacturing environment preferred
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
High attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality
Effective written and verbal communication skills
