Process Engineer: Optimize Operations & Lead Plant Projects

Job Summary

The Process Engineer contributes to the safety, reliability, and profitability of plant operations through the development, application, and optimization of chemical process technologies.

• Maintains excellent communication and a professional working relationship with all departments and plant personnel.
• Provides production and process optimization, troubleshooting, data analysis, and technical support to the operations organization.
• Monitors process and production metrics daily/weekly, reviewing KPIs, DCS trends, PI Data Base trends, quality lab results, and other data to ensure reliable, consistent, and cost‑effective operations; intervenes where appropriate to resolve operating issues.
• Provides detailed engineering support to meet Process Safety Management requirements, including monitoring Management of Change processes, Pre‑Startup Safety Reviews, and safety layer risk assessments.
• Works with the EHS team to ensure full compliance with permit conditions and applies appropriate safety and control measures (DCS control loops, alarms, operating procedures, etc.).
• Develops process standards, operating procedures, diagrams, training materials, and job aids to document, teach, and manage efficient, sustainable production.
• Organizes, leads, and participates in improvement initiatives, projects, and process optimization to deliver specific, focused, time‑bound objectives.
• Designs and implements new processes and/or equipment upgrades, managing small and large projects, including potential capital project assignments to support plant improvements.
• Assesses maintenance activities to determine what can be done on‑stream versus deferred to shutdown.
• Actively participates in Process Hazard Analysis and Layers of Protection Analysis teams.
• Participates in incident investigations and problem‑solving exercises as needed.
• Participates in turnaround and/or plant shutdown activities, including planning, implementation, and verification stages.

Establishes and implements processes and procedures to meet departmental process safety and internal controls requirements. Ensures established processes are followed and develops corrective actions for deficiencies as necessary.

• BS degree in engineering.
• Engineering experience in a production, manufacturing, or plant environment.
• Exposure to project management and implementation.
• Solid communication skills, fluent in English, able to compose documents and interact with peers and supervisors.
• Familiarity with applicable codes, regulations, and standards.
