Director of Civil Engineering - Site Development & Discipline LeadershipOverview
We are seeking a dynamic and growth-oriented Director of Civil Engineering to lead and elevate a civil engineering practice within a multidisciplinary environment. This is a high-impact leadership role for a technical expert who can drive department growth, mentor teams, and strengthen client relationships while ensuring excellence in project delivery.
This position offers a unique opportunity to step into a visible leadership role with immediate influence-helping expand an established client base, enhance technical standards, and shape the future of a growing civil engineering team. The ideal candidate brings a balance of technical expertise, business development acumen, and strong leadership in site development projects across diverse markets.
Location: Tulsa, OK (Relocation assistance available)
Salary: $140,000 - $175,000+Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and technical oversight for the Civil Engineering discipline across the firm
- Lead, mentor, and develop a growing team of civil engineers, designers, and project managers
- Drive business development efforts, including client engagement, proposal development, and project pursuit strategies
- Oversee project execution to ensure alignment with quality, schedule, and budget expectations
- Manage staffing plans, workload distribution, and team utilization to maximize efficiency
- Champion QA/QC standards and ensure consistent technical excellence across all civil deliverables
- Collaborate with internal teams including architecture, surveying, and other engineering disciplines to support integrated project delivery
- Partner with external consultants such as geotechnical and survey teams to ensure project success
- Support financial performance through budgeting, forecasting, and operational planning
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, innovation, and department growth
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with NCEES registration (required)
- 15+ years of civil engineering experience, with strong emphasis in site development (grading, drainage, utilities)
- 5+ years of leadership or management experience within a multidisciplinary environment
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage projects, and drive organizational growth
- Strong background working with large, complex clients and multi-project programs
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to balance technical excellence with business objectives
- Experience working with nationally recognized clients or large-scale programs
- Background across multiple markets such as commercial, retail, institutional, industrial, or healthcare
- Strong client-facing experience with the ability to influence and build long-term relationships
- Experience scaling teams or growing a department within an engineering organization
- Strategic mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation
