BACKGROUND:
QAI laboratories is a testing, inspection and certification organization providing services to manufacturers of Electrical Products, Building Products, Vehicles, Factory Built Structures, and other regulated products. Recognition of the QAI name and logo have grown significantly over the past few years resulting in significant expansion of the business.
Currently, we are looking for a Technician - Fire testing - to join our Building Products team in Tulsa, OK and support future expansion. Our ideal candidate would be someone who has a technical diploma with four years of experience or more, working in a structural or construction laboratory testing environment in the testing, inspection, and certification industry, with knowledge of common ASTM, UL and CSA test methods relating to building products.
Flexibility in work schedule and working overtime, if needed, is ideal.
DUTIES: The successful candidate will report to the Operations Manager or his designee and perform, but not be limited to, the following duties:
- Maintains a level of technical competence in the specified field of testing.
- Maintains a level of technical competence in the field of testing to ensure validity of test results.
- Conducts supervised and/or unsupervised testing, data analysis and test report preparation per the QAI competency matrix.
- Scope of technical authority shall be limited by the level of authorization as shown in the competency matrix.
- Cooperates well with others and acts professionally
- Alignment with QAI's core values.
- Completes testing of limited complexity, works with mentor, until "qualified" (work is checked by "qualified staff")
- Competency:
May be moving from level 1 to level 2 for a variety of standards in the business stream - Maintains proper calibration records.
- Able to operate relevant test equipment. Able to perform basic maintenance of test equipment. Understanding of data acquisition.
- May provide sales support; quoting and participates in client meetings
- Effectively/ efficiently deals with multiple projects, conflicting timelines, and changing priorities
- Learning key standards in subject area.
- Can work with the team to effectively resolve technical issues and determine the appropriate interpretation of technical requirements; produce necessary documentation
- Maintains good housekeeping, taking care of safety and always using PPE
- Maintains effective communication with internal staff and clients (willingness to travel as needed)
- Understanding and ability to navigate the quality management system and adhere to QAI's policies
- Meets department goals and objectives (i.e. KPI's for productivity, turnaround time, etc.
- Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or its designee.
The successful candidate will:
- Effectively completing projects of limited complexity; prepares data sheets, test reports and other related document (where needed, under supervision by qualified employee)
- Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation/ data acquisition/ operating principles/ calibration & general laboratory procedures; perform own testing typically under supervision
- Learning internal procedures, processes, safety requirements, and quality management system
- Basic understanding of ISO 17025 and accreditation requirements
- Competency:
Moving from level 1 to level 2 for a variety of standards within the business stream - Effective at communicating with clients and coworkers. Shows professionalism.
- Has a basic understanding of QAI's quality procedures and HR policies.
- Has adequate understanding of QAI's safety policies. Identifies and resolves safety issues per QAI's policies.
- Familiar with MS Office and other software relevant to the position.
- Accepts instruction and follows it for testing outside of their general scope of knowledge and experience.
- Able to grasp general concepts in a field of testing and apply it to specific test methods.
- Able to perform testing and as knowledge grows in a specific field of testing graduates to more complex testing methods.
- Seeks assistance and knowledge from more senior personnel when a specific requirement is outside of their general scope of knowledge.
- Good working knowledge of the test methods in their specific discipline.
- Able to multi-task with some degree of efficiency and accuracy.
- Maintains a sense of ownership and responsibility for projects assigned to them.
- Candidates must hold a valid driver's license.
- Previous experience with construction materials and building code compliance practices in the US and Canada
