Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in shell and tube heat exchanger design to join our team in Tulsa. This role is responsible for the design, analysis, and optimization of heat transfer equipment in accordance with industry standards, customer specifications, and internal quality requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience with ASME pressure vessel design, TEMA standards, and thermal/mechanical calculations, along with the ability to collaborate across engineering, drafting, and production teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and optimize shell and tube heat exchangers based on customer specifications and project requirements
- Perform detailed thermal and mechanical calculations to ensure performance, safety, and code compliance
- Generate and review ASME Section VIII calculations, TEMA calculations, and structural analyses (including wind, seismic, and Zick analysis)
- Review and approve technical specifications, datasheets, and general arrangement drawings
- Collaborate with internal teams (drafting, fabrication, and project management) to ensure accurate and efficient execution
- Communicate with clients to clarify requirements, resolve technical issues, and provide engineering support
- Develop tools, templates, or programs to improve design efficiency (e.g., geometric calculations for complex exchanger designs such as helical bundles)
- Support troubleshooting and problem-solving during design, fabrication, and testing phases
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 3+ years of experience in heat exchanger or pressure vessel design (shell & tube highly preferred)
- Strong knowledge of: ASME Section VIII (Div. 1 or
2) TEMA standards Pressure vessel and structural calculations - Experience with design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Solid Works, or similar)
- Familiarity with thermal design software (HTRI or similar preferred)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Preferred Experience:
- Experience designing helical bundle or specialized exchangers
- Background working in a fabrication or manufacturing environment
- Ability to create or improve internal engineering tools/processes
