Overview

Hydraquip Electric Systems is looking for a candidate to advance their technical career in our 100% employee-owned company. Hydraquip operates four divisions: electric systems, fluid power, service & repair, and fluid conveyance, with offices in Houston, Memphis, San Antonio, Dallas, Tulsa, Denver, and Lafayette. The Applications Engineer will be the primary technical adviser and customer-facing support for a wide range of electric drivetrain and generation systems, working with customers and account managers to understand applications, specify and layout options for electric systems, and help bring these systems to life.

The role includes design, start-up, and troubleshooting support as part of the business unit sales team.

This position requires approximately 30-40% travel to meet with clients, manage field projects, visit manufacturer partners, and collaborate with sales personnel. Travel will primarily be domestic within the US.

Responsibilities
  • Design, install, and implement new control system solutions such as electric or hydraulic motors, hydraulic pumps, sensors, and other hardware that interface with PLCs and/or HMIs
  • Selection, application, and system configuration of electric and hybrid electric drivetrain systems for off-highway, marine, and other applications
  • Selection, application, and system configuration of hydraulic and power generation systems to be used and/or integrated with electric/hybrid drivetrain systems
  • Provide accurate quotations and project timelines for sales personnel to deliver to customers
  • Build relationships with key manufacturer partners to understand products and develop modifications to meet customer technology needs
  • Provide time schedule estimates to customers for controls system design, procurement, project coordination, purchasing, shipping & receiving, inventory management, and record-keeping as applicable to the scope
  • Provide technical problem-solving for current systems in the field, during new customer projects, and support projects through start-up
  • Organize, coordinate, and conduct electrification training for account managers and the sales talent development team
  • Join sales and account managers on customer visits and serve as the electrification technical sales asset for the team; develop and maintain relationships with manufacturer partners, Hydraquip customers, and consultants as required to support long-term growth of the business unit
  • Support and participate in the organization’s continual improvement program to conform to ISO 9001 requirements by complying with the Quality Policy and procedures and meeting QMS objectives
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Education & Training

  • BSEE, BSME, BAEET (ABET accredited university), or equivalent technical degree with equivalent experience
  • PLUS+1 Certified or PLC training from Siemens, Allen Bradley, IDEC, or other widely used PLC manufacturers; certification can be obtained within the first year of employment
  • Fluid power experience and fluid power specialist certification are a plus

Experience, Knowledge, And Skills

  • 1-3 years of experience in the application and development of power systems using electric machines, power electronics, generators, etc.
  • Working knowledge of system and electrical engineering principles and processes is a plus
  • 1-3 years in a customer-facing technical support role
  • Knowledge in working with electronics, PLC programming & mobile control systems; PLUS+1 preferred
  • Ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment and quickly shift between customer projects and priorities
  • Excellent communication skills — oral and written — with both internal stakeholders and external stakeholders
  • Results-oriented with a hands-on approach; strong organization and customer focus
  • Must be highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
