Job Overview

Nelnet is a diversified and innovative company that operates in student loan servicing, professional services, consumer loan origination and servicing, payments processing, renewable energy solutions, and K‑12 and higher education expertise. This role is responsible for the financial management and reporting of NTCS’s operations and investments, including tax credit compliance, investor relations, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $105,000 – $110,000

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure propriety of accounting entries related to the financial reporting of tax credit investment portfolios, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
  • Effectively manage the accounting and financial statements for multiple legal entities, including intercompany transactions, minority interests, revenue recognition, and HLBV accounting.
  • Track and report on investment performance (ROI, IRR, NPV, etc.).
  • Coordinate and oversee financial statement audits and internal controls.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data related to tax credit investments.
  • Identify areas for process improvements in managing tax credit projects and investor reporting.
  • Assist team members with tax credit compliance and oversight of projects and ensure adherence to program‑specific rules, eligibility, deadlines, and documentation.
  • Work closely with legal and tax advisors to structure investment and tax credit claims.
  • Prepare investor reports, ensuring timely and accurate updates on performance, projected returns, and compliance status.
  • Manage communication and disclosure with investors, including coordination of tax credit distributions.
  • Review models and constructs to develop innovative tax credit product ideas, balancing risk and opportunity.
  • Manage budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting for NTCS, including consulting and advisory fee revenue, project ownership, and operating expenses.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, solar development partners, third‑party investors, tax consultants, legal advisors, and internal teams for tax credit reporting and compliance.
  • Prepare and review cash‑flow and income‑statement forecasts, reporting results and projections to optimize business performance.
  • Identify potential risks related to tax credit investments and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Lead, mentor, and provide guidance to junior accounting and finance staff.
  • Stay updated on changes to GAAP provisions related to HLBV, VIE, proportional amortization, and minority interest accounting to ensure compliance.
Education & Experience

• 4‑year college degree in accounting or finance required.

• Advanced degree and related certifications preferred.

• 5+ years of experience in finance and/or accounting, with tax experience preferred.

• Prior leadership and supervisory experience required.
