Medical Insurance Verification Specialist Tulsa, OK | Full-Time | Monday - Friday | $18.00 - $22.00/Hour DOE
Responsibilities- Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage prior to appointments or procedures.
- Contact insurance carriers to confirm active coverage, deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance, and out-of-pocket responsibilities.
- Identify authorization and referral requirements and communicate any outstanding needs to the appropriate staff.
- Accurately document insurance information and verification details within the electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management system.
- Obtain and monitor prior authorizations as required by insurance carriers.
- Communicate insurance benefits and financial responsibilities to patients in a professional and compassionate manner.
- Resolve insurance discrepancies by working with patients, providers, and insurance companies.
- Maintain current knowledge of payer guidelines, insurance plans, and reimbursement policies.
- Collaborate with scheduling, billing, clinical staff, and providers to ensure timely patient care.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality at all times.
- Assist with additional front office or revenue cycle responsibilities as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of one year of medical insurance verification, medical billing, patient access, or related healthcare experience preferred.
- Knowledge of commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care plans.
- Experience verifying benefits through payer portals and by telephone.
- Understanding of prior authorizations, referrals, deductibles, co-pays, and insurance eligibility requirements.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) and practice management software preferred.
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced medical office.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional, dependable, and patient-focused attitude.
- Experience in a specialty medical practice.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic revenue cycle processes.
- Familiarity with Epic, Next Gen, eClinical
Works, Greenway, Athenahealth, or other EMR systems.
